Any bets on if I break the new truck on the May long weekend?? Thanks for the link on the wiring harness guys. Thats exactly what I was looking for. My bed is already been line-x, with the extra thick stuff. Should be fun using the hole saw, worst case, I'll use my plasma torch. On my 1500 truck, I peeled off some pretty big chunks off the bed liner in two years of use, so this time I got the life time warranty. I might be hard on stuff

My moneys on the Cummins.. As for the rest of the truck weeeeell no comment

Go slow and use a squirt bottle with soapy water for coolant you'll be fine..
You could use cutting oil too but the soapy water will be clean up a lot easier..

Colo River Ram,

I'm curious on what the brake setup is on your "small" 32 foot trailer?

I cant find rails for my fifth wheel hitch. My hitch rails go from the front of the bed the rear of the bed. I just phoned a few shops, and all they have are rails that go from the left to right of the bed, not front to back. Might have to rip out my 02 stuff, I hate to buy a new hitch for the truck.

I'm the guy that broke 5 head gaskets in one year, and all the rear studs on the rear wheel on the driver side. Everything that can happen when I tow my RV.

That would be the 12 1/4"electric drum on both of the straight 7200 lb easy lube axles (over-slung springs w/ walking beams and shocks) When the brakes wear out I'll probably upgrade to disc (all bolt on parts)..

Here is the link to Dexter axles:

Check out the air-ride 8K axles that would be one sweet set-up for a camp trailer, air up to get to camp then drop the air while in camp.. making load / unload a lot easier.

I have a Draw tite 18k Signature series that mounts front to back except the hitch attaches to the rails mounted under the box through 4 holes. When removed, only the holes remain, no rails. Unlikely, but I wonder if any of those parts might work?
I picked it up at Truck Outfitters. You might want to try some of the bigger RV dealers as a last resort as well?

What brand is your hitch? I bought rails from Gregg's for a DSP hitch that I have that has rails that run front to back.

My fifth wheel hitch is Reese. It an older unit. Its a common hitch, so I should find the rails some where.

Thanks Colo River Ram,

That's exactly the same brake setup that I ordered on our 5th wheel: 8 lug, 7k EZ lube Dexter axles & 12 1/4" electric drum brakes.
I avoided the Dexter Never Lube axles like the plague. Those hubs have a terrible failure rate on 5th wheels.

Of course our 5th wheel is only 10k lbs GVW, & the salesman thought I was crazy to order these axles, but overkill is always my preference!

I couldn't avoid the useless off-shore Goodyear Marathon trailer tires but I will upgrade to LT type truck highway rib tires at the 1st hint of trouble with the Marathons.

Hey Mike H., I hope your new truck is a 6 speed manual. I have to come over to your garage sometime to check out your projects!!

Joe, just an 68RFE (auto), once I break it, I get a DTT race transmission built-up for it. I want to a free hand to swat the boy when he out of line in the back seat. It was hard enough find a 3500 laramie with everything that what I wanted. BC is getting pretty fussy on truck pulling trailers these days. My current RV is over the 2002 towing rating (my wife just likes big RV's). The new truck is right on the border line weight limit, which really doesn't mean anything. I remember one time coming back from BC towing my RV, I forgot to hook-up my trailer plug (the plug for the lights/brakes). I towed thru the mountains with no issues, it was a long on stopping, but I still could stop. I had to beat my dad's duramax back to Alberta. I did put 2hours on him, from Revelstoke to Calgary. The new brakes and e-brake on the 2010 works real nice, vs my 02 ride. I only have 110km's on the truck and its been sitting at my house for the last 2 weeks. They put in pretty small batteries into the 2010, no way I can run an espar for very long on those little things. As for hanging out at my garage, please stop by, hopefully I will be home next weekend.

X2 on the overkill especially with the axles, I would rather trash out a tire and wheel than replace the axle.
