My nephew just picked up a '98 12 valve. We don't really have any history on it but it seems like a solid truck. My question is how much power they made stock, this one seems like it pulls pretty good, nice puff of black if you lay into it off boost. It will make almost 30 psi boost, feels like it has about the same power as my 24 valve with the comp on 2, maybe a little less.
Does it sound like it's be turned up a bit? I don't really have a point of refrence since the last 12 valve I drove was '92 so I don't know what it should pull like.

 

Is it an auto or stick truck? Nice buy, the 98 are the year to buy for p pump truck, but they are all good. Have you looked at the tag model # on the injection pump? Where do you live?

 

Sounds like its been turned up a tad.. Probably the plate has been slid up with some starwheel adjustments. Stock mine only made about 28 psi with the wastegate blocked.

It's got a 5 speed. Truck has pretty high Km, around 300K. I think he got it for 6G or so. It's got training wheels like mine but he wanted something to yard his TT around so the dually is nice for that. I guess I'll have to do some reading in the 12 valve forums. The last 12 valve Cummins I worked on was driving a Mycom and had a carb.

215hp stock. Definitely sounds like it is turned up, boost was about 20 psi or so. Probably has the wastegate blocked off, or maybe a boost elbow. Should be able to tell on the AFC.
