5spd Conversion Notes

I finally got my donor truck to do my 5spd swap. I think I got everything out I need, except the pedals, and whatever wiring I need to make the speedo and cruise work. I'm hoping to get to that tonight. I was just wondering how the pedals come out? I haven't looked at them yet, I think it's just 4 nuts for the assembly, but what about the throttle and brake plunger? Also what wiring do I need to swap to make the cruise and speedo and all the electronics work? Thanks in advance for any help!

just pull the pin that holds the pedal ups, it knocks out with a hammer and small punch, knock it from the driver to passenger side. drop the brake pedal out and put the two new ones in, take only about ten minutes

If you also swap out the computer to the 5 speed unit......the only wiring that needs to be done is ground 1 wire and splice the 2 reverse light wires on the tranny. The reverse light plug-in is different on the 5 speed tranny.

The cruise and speedometer will work fine if the above is done.

If you don't swap the computers then you will be doing more wire cutting and splicing.

I didnt swap the computer on mine. I wired the clutch safety switch up and everything works perfect. I dont remember the wire colors, but the ones from your 5 speed harness are the same colors. Wire those 2 up to the coordinating color...the other goes to one side of the clutch safety switch and the other side of the clutch safety switch goes to ground.

Make sure your drive shafts are the proper length. I had to shorten my front 1 inch and the rear gets one inch longer

Make sure you use the speed sensor out of your transfer case if the gearing is different in your truck and the donor or the speedo will be way off..

You said ground 1 wire? I'm trying to get my cruise control to work. I have my reverse lights working, do I need to ground the third wire on that plug to get my cruise to work?

the wire colors should be the same so maybe you have it hooked up wrong?

Curious if you got this together yet ? I often think about a swap and want to hear pros and cons as far as drive ability and performance comparing auto to stick . Simply put was it worth the trouble and what did you gain

i gained a reliable transmission... if i had to do it again then i may not do it for myslelf... Id ratherbuy the truck already done... If its in a 12v truck i think it is cake... I would do it again though if i had a shop and a lift, just not in my drive way...
