Would you trade it in?
Would you trade it in?
Ok hubby is thinking about trading in his 2006 5.9L HO diesel dually for a new 2011. his '06 only has 55k miles on it. Runs great, gets decent MPG pulling the horse trailer and boat.
He is just looking around right now and seeing what they will give in trade. Just kicking around the idea really. I think he is worried he will kick himself in the butt for getting rid of his '06.
Can you all tell us some pros and cons of the 2011 verses his '06??
I don't know what rear end he has or what he is looking at I don't even think he knows LOL

Pros
The 4th gen are allot nicer and more comfortable
His '06 will bring top dollar with that mileage. Don't let it go cheap
Cons
The MPG is down because of all the emmissions controls. But they can be defeated fro a price.
These new trucks are not grocery getters anymore.

Thanks. Yeah we don't plan to let his '06 go cheap. He said its gonna have to be an pretty good deal before he lets it go. Doesn't hurt to try I guess LOL. The one place only offered him $21,000 for his '06 and not much off the new one, so we walked.
I did trade mine in, the truck in my avatar pic. My 07 was a fantastic truck with no complaints. The 2011 is light years ahead in comfort, refinement and quietness. My head no longer buzzes after a long haul.
Had an 06 that I traded with some dents and over 90,000 and got 28,000 trade for it. I pretty sure the auto trans was headed south as well since the converter was slipping while pulling our trailer.
I bought a used 2010 3500 DRW, what a great truck. I do wish the milage was a little better, but I won't delete it till the warranty is up.
Good luck.

He can get any new '11 for 1% below invoice plus rebates by joining Tread Lightly online for something like $40. That makes the purchase side easy.
Selling his, '06 Diesels with low mileage are worth a lot and in my opinion, he'd be foolish not to sell it direct to someone using eBay. $25K to $30K or more should be easy assuming it was well cared for.

If you can get over the fact that the emmisions engines get crap milage, and live with it or delete it, then the 4th gens are heads and shoulders above the 3rd gens.
