Who's an expert on 2010 / 2011 interior space?

Hello everyone, I currently have a 2004.5 quad cab 4x4 - starting to plan / look for the replacement truck in roughly 2 years. I am trying to decide between a 2010 Crew Cab either 3/4 ton or 1 ton w/ 8 foot box or a 2010 Mega. I have an 8' flat bed w/ a gooseneck hitch on the truck and absolutely love it. I will likely put an AL flat bed on the 2010, either an 7 foot with the mega or 8 foot with the crew cab. I know for a couple of $k i could make the mega an 8foot bed but that is getting pretty long.

My question deals with the rear passenger space / leg room. I assume the 2012 is the same cab as the 2010 therefore i went to the ram website and did the comparison of the mega, 2500 crew, and 3500 crew. What is weird is that is says the 3500 crew has more rear leg room than the mega or 2500 crew.

Is this a typo or is for some reason the 3500 bigger inside than the 2500? doesn't make any sense to me.

2nd question - what is the interior space difference between a 2500 crew and a mega cab? from the looks of it, it seems that the leg space is is the same, only difference is that the mega allows the passengers to recline the rear seats - is that correct?

Any help in your wisdom would be appreciated.

Lastly - what does a 2010 automatic 4x4 typically get for mpg unloaded with out a DPF filter on the truck?

I don't think there is any difference between a 2500 and a 3500, I have a 2012 3500 CC and am 6'8" tall. With my seat all the way back there is a ton of leg room for the rear seat passenger. You may have a need for a Mega Cab, but the new body style has so much rear seat leg room in the CC that a MC would be a real waste of money and bed space for me.....

I went with the mega this time around, was going to get a short bed either way.

Interior differences that I noticed before ordering my 2011, don't know if '10s or '12s are any different:

Crew - underfloor storage bins, none on Mega

Crew - has cupholders below middle rear seat, like 3rd gen Quads

Crew - bottom seat cushion folds up

Crew - middle rear seat bottom is more shallow

Mega - 3" more rear legroom, although crew seems to have plenty

Mega - entire rear seat bottom has the same depth, Crew center seat is more shallow, like 3rd gen Quads

Mega - rear seat backs recline (60/40), as well as fold down entirely. Then the entire rear seat can collapse down and forward to provide a very large flat area

Mega - rear floor is flatter, there is still a bit of a hump in the middle behind the front seats, where the Crew tunnel intrudes entirely on the rear floor area

Mega - quite a bit of room for storage behind the rear seats, storage bins back there also (most of one of the bins is filled with the subwoofer if the truck has one)

Only negative I have with the Mega (other than aesthetics) is that with a car seat in the middle of the rear seat there are no accessible cupholders in the back. I probably would have been happy with either one.

If I could have gotten another Quad for significantly less money than a Crew (and Dodge would build one) I might have gone that way as well.

mega vs crew

Thanks everyone

I use the truck as a secondary vehicle for pulling a 34' gooseneck back and forth to FL from WI two times per year as well as for hauling a dump trailer around the house, snowmobiling, moving boats in and out of the water, etc. If it was not for moving the boats / using the truck in the winter time once in a while, I would go with a 2wd but having 4wd is very useful.

For the bed, I really wanted a flatbed when my dad and I purchased the 2004.5, he thought I was nuts / turned in to a hill billy but now he can not imagine another truck without a flat bed. The bed on the current truck now is 7' by 8'. If we end up with the mega, then I need to check how well it is to pull the trailer, assuming that we do not extend the bed length since the distance from the back of the cab to the location of the ball will be shorter than on an 8' bed.

Thanks everyone. I have some time before starting to look for a 2010.

I have seen locally newer dodge mega with two tone paint - kind of a dark / metallic brown upper with the gold lower. unfortunately I do not see this color combo for 2012 on line. Maybe it was a color they offered in 2011 or 2010.

Before deciding have a look at the GVWR of both trucks, I believe the mega cab is quite low.

This is a very good point. You will also want to match the rear gear to the weight you pull. There is quite a bit of difference in the rated towing of a 3.42 versus 3.73 versus 4.10 geared Dodge Truck. If you are going to tow heavy, you will want 4.10s.

My three main reasons for getting the '11

The G56

The LONG BED

The Dually

The Megas are awesome, but as far as leg room, there is only a couple of extra inches. The Crew is plenty enough room unless your a pituatary giant.

Where the mega shines over the crew is the storage. Behind the seat, and under the seat. And the rear seats on the mega are a bit larger, recline, and make for a more comfy ride on an extended trip.

My thoughts are this, if you can live with a short bed, by all means, get the mega. I loved my mega, hated the short bed. My Crew dually is exactly what I wanted.
