Thinking of stepping up to a New '16 or '17, need advice...
Hello all, I have been thinking of getting into a new Ram 2500 after 12 years of literally no hassle out of my '05. Thing is, I have an older gentleman that approached me twice, and wants to buy my '05 in the worse way because its super clean with only 41K on the clock. I told him give me about a month because I just ordered a new exhaust and need the truck the next few weekends. I wasn't really planning on selling it, but if the price is right, I might do it. My question is, with a '16 or '17, are there any issues that I should be concerned or look out for?? I found a couple of nicley loaded ones with the gooseneck hitch and all the bells and whistles for around 55K. I just don't want to get rid of a trusty reliable truck that I've owned and get a new one that might have a bunch of concerns. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.....

That was the dilemma that I had as well when I was deciding on a new one (except I didn't have anyone wanting to buy mine!). From all I've heard, read, and observed, these late 4th gens are pretty much as bullet proof as our 05's. I'm really excited to take delivery of my new '17 soon!

My '12 has been bullet proof. There were obviously some issues with the DEF system when it was first out on the 13/14's but they have been corrected. I wouldn't hesitate too much, the emissions stuff isn't as bad as everyone originally made it out to be and they have a ton of power stock. My truck has 320,000 hard km's in the bush at work and I simply want a new truck again. I have no doubt it would last several more years but I want to get into a more loaded truck than my current SLT. I ordered a '17 yesterday and have no reservations about the new models. I occasionaly miss my '07 with the 5.9 but the new truck has so many more features and comforts it was well worth the change.

Keep your 05. I hate my 14. They sit to low to work on. Closed crank case system w/ with a $100 filter every 30k mile if you want to keep your turbo clean, horrible fuel economy (13 Highway/9 towing 18K GCVW), the seats are hard as a rock, interior lights have issues, the center console rattles, the buttons don't work great on the shifter or the steering wheel, $100 fuel filters every 12k miles, oil changes every 5k miles as it is sooty black with the egr and now to top it all off I have intermittent service def issue that the dealer can't figure out. oh and if you get service def error it will limit you to 5 mph in about 200 miles. Really crappy when you are 200 miles from home on a weekend. It could just be my truck but this def issue is about the final straw. I'm either selling it or deleting. I have heart burn for what I paid for the truck and now have to put $2000 into it to make it run right since Detroit doesn't have the ***** to tell CARB and the EPA to **** off.
