Thinking about a new 2013
I'm considering trading my 2006 2500 Laramie Quad Cab for a 2013 Mega Cab (I shoulda got the mega cab to start with...the family doesn't like long trips in the quad cab). Looking on the Ram website, they indicate that some of the extras on the Laramie are an overhead console, four wheel antilock disc brakes and an anti-spin rear axle. These used to be found on lower trim groups...are these really not present at all on the lower trim groups now? I'm thinking about an SLT or Big Horn, but may just keep driving the 2006...

I have all of those on my SLT BigHorn. Sounds like a serious attempt at upsell! Check out the crew cab, too. It has a real backseat just like the mega, but no extra room behind the seat. Main difference is you can get the crew in a longbed if you need it.

I would mirror Busboy's comments. It took so long to get the 2013's out...I think I'd wait for a 2014 or at least until they start to discount 2013's because they should have the 2014's on the lots. Crew cab is plenty big enough unless you really want the mega. For a comparison the mega and crew have the same rear door...the mega just has a wider pillar behind the door to allow for seat recline and extra storage.

I will also confirm that the Mega is only necessary if you need the extra space behind the seat. Legroom is the same for Crew & Mega. The main reason I sold my '03 Quad and bought an '11 Crew was to make the long-legged teenagers in the back seat happy, and happy they are. But on top of that, the '11 a far better truck in almost every way.
As far as the overhead console, they moved all that stuff (compass, mpgs, etc) to the EVIC (dash) so you really don't need the overhead anymore. Also, pretty sure 4-wheel ABS comes standard on every trim level, anti-spin you can get on any trim level. My SLT has it. If anything, there are more options available to the ST/SLT buyer with the 4th gens, not less IMHO. Up-sell indeed.
