Sirius Radio Problems

I've been having a strange issue with the Nav/Satellite radio in my 2010 Ram. Somedays the satellite radio starts to do this "Updating Channels" thing, it'll play for a few minutes, then go silent with that message on the display. After 1-2 minutes, it'll start playing again. Then a few minutes later, bang, updating channels again. This may repeat 4-5 times in a 20 minute period.

Been to the Dealer 5-6 times now since this started. (I actually believe this started after the first time they did a system update during a routine visit) The first time it happened, they said "Oh yeah, the radio is bad." They swapped out the radio. Didn't fix the problem and ever since they, they can't recreate it. I took pictures one day with my phone as I was driving home, it updated at 5:17, 5:19, 5:23. Showed the Service Writer the pics last time. He said he called Chrysler and they are now saying that those stereos, 2010 and above, are downloading data while turned off, and then updating once you start the vehicle and that it's Sirus to blame for sending all the updates.

Sounds like BS to me. Anyone else having similar issues with Sirius and Nav/Stereo combo?

Mine does the same thing, but I don't believe it's the head unit at all. I think the problem is with Sirius. My opinion is that they're not updating, their satellites are simply having technical difficulty, which seems to be quite often, but rather Sirius say they're having technical difficulty, it looks better on them by saying that they're updating channels.

I had XM before and I don't recall them updating.

You might check that your key fob is programmed for your channels/seat/mirror settings. I'm pretty sure that when you unlock your doors with your key fob your seat//mirror/satellite settings are loaded. You might be reloading blank settings. Load them up and then save your settings on the side of the seat....

My old 07 basic radio does not go update. It only goes "in and out" if I'm near tall buildings or near trees.

My 1500 is doing the same exact thing and it is a 2010. I spent 20 minutes today on the phone with Sirius and they resent the activation signal 2-3 times and made me turn the truck on and off, radio on and off wait 10 seconds etc etc. It seemed like a scripted procedure they had on file. Mine did it 4 times today in a 15 minute drive.

Ill know more tomorrow.

My radio has done this once since I've had the truck. I bet it's a communication problem between the dodge radio and sirius.

I don't think this is limited to the trucks. 2009 Journey.

I've lost my programed favs on the radio during hard starting in the winter with temps lower than -20C. Remote start will turn it over but then seems to cut the gas, or the fuel pump has a 1 second issue and it quits. Flashes lights on dash. Boom. No saved sat. radio stations.

Resetting some of the stations is annoying with mitts on.

That TIP elec. start doesn't do well in the cold.

My 2011 reloads channels a lot. I drive the same roads and the Chev I traded in did not do this. Maybe a communication issue with the Dodge radio

Good info Chris. Since we have the RES radio in my wife's 2011 1500, I hopefully won't experience any issues. We've only had the truck 2 weeks, so time will tell.
