Oil Change indicator

Is the oil change indication system actually know when the oil is getting dirty or is it just set on a timer. I just changed the oil and forgot to reset the system and went on a 2000 mile hunting trip to wyoming and now it wants me to change it again.
Should i just wait for the 7000 mile mark to change or should i do what my truck whats me to do and change now??

On your 6.7 cummins, as with my own cummins, the oil change interval is determined by the computer through a number of factors. It monitors things like temperature, engine load, engine speed, idle time, emissions regeneration cycles, mileage, heat cycling, etc. etc. It is basically looking at things that could degrade the quality of oil, like heat/pressure/contamination.

If you've deleted the DPF and EGR, your factory oil change indicator is basically worthless, because it does it's calculations assuming fuel and soot contamination is still occuring, with the DPF regen process active. The best possible way to determine a solid oil change interval is to send oil samples out for analysis, and let them tell you how much life your oil does or does not have left. Then you know FOR SURE, what is best for your truck. A deleted truck should be good for 5-7k mile oil changes though, if not significantly more.

Don't be afraid to reset it. I did once just to see what would happen and it came back on after a couple of days.

Just did oil change about 200 miles ago, filter and fuel filter at the same time. Went to the storage unit to charge batteries, message says I need to change the oil and to see the dealer.

How do I reset the oil change interval clock/indicator??

Key on wait for change oil warning, press on accelerator slowly to floor and release, do this three times within 10 seconds. key off, wait a few seconds then key on and check if warning comes back, if not you're done if it does repeat procedure.
