Needed a reason to buy 4th gen.

Well some one decided to smash up my bed on my 09 2500. I have hated the interior of that thing sense i got it. It has rattled right off the lot, dealer told me it was just the way they were designed; So i was always looking for an excuse to get something else. No that the bed is all smashed up i have been thinking about getting a new truck, or putting a flat bed on it. I got my eye on a 2012 DRW from dave smith. Who has gone from 3rd to 4th gen and regretted it? Who has gone from srw to drw and regretted it? Thanks in advance.

I did both. Went from an 08 Mega 2500 to a 11 Crew 3500 Dually

I regret it. Simply because I only made the switch once. Wish I could do it a hundred times.

That 2012 is gonna be so much nicer than the 3rd gen.

I will never own another truck that I tow with that aint a dually.

You wont regret it.

Thanks blake. I am seriously considering it. The one longhorn that dave has got is pretty nice. THe only problem i have with it is the russet seats. They do not have this etching on them so there not as bad, but still cant get over that color. Who has got the russet seats and likes them? The wife really likes them but i have to convince my self. Thanks

I'd like to have the best parts of a few years. Shame they don't offer a 5.9 motor hooked to a 68RFE, with the 07' megacab (bigger back doors) with 2012 longhorn interior, 07' dually bed (a 8' bed) and the 4th gen grill/lights.

I went from an 08 SRW 3500 (fully loaded and fully mod-ed) to a 12 DRW 3500 and love it. My only issues so far is the head lights (dim) and the turning radius (long, not good for the drive thru )
Side note: I bought a 02 3500 DRW also and luv it.
Never go back

I dont mind the russet, but if, and a big huge if, I was going LongHorn Id have to have the seats with the etching.

Thats just me though.

Unless they decide to toss a G56 in a LongHorn, Im outta luck.

Id be better off, with the changes Ive made to my truck, to just get the seats, gauges, and door panels and stick em in myself.

If something ever happened to my truck, that would be my next color though.

The more i look at it, the more i am liking it. This will most likely be the last truck i ever own. The wife really digs the seats. She is a horse gal and it reminds her of saddle material. I got a buyer thats wanting my 09 as soon as it is fixed. I am going to talk to ash tomorrow and have him throw in some mud flaps, husky weather beaters and see if he will throw in a companion hitch. If he does that, then 500 bucks down and its a done deal. I appreciate all the input, you guys have helped me make a decision.

I keep an eye on the 4th gen threads and except for all the small things an 03 doesn't have inside, I have yet to see anything that makes me want to go to a 12. It's all the smog stuff that kills the engine and the MPG that worries me the most. Guys doing deletes and saying how they must be done to make it run right and get some MPG back. In Cal that is not a good idea due to inspections and warranty will be gone. I am sure the new cabs are much better than mine along with everything in them. But they are very complicated trucks compared to my 03. I crawled under my buddies and that exhaust alone, OMG. In 8+ years and 100K+ miles my truck has spent 0 days locked up for repairs. I am just not going to spend big for a new one just to keep spending more to keep it running. Someone please tell me I am wrong.
