Question 2010 Laramie Mega Cab on order

Ok, I order this truck almost two weeks ago now. I have called my dealer twice, once a week, to check the status and so forth. He is a smart guy and honest from what I can tell. I was reviewing my build sheet and they are going to build it with 3.42 gears instead of the 3.73s that I requested. I told the dealer and he said the truck now has a VIN, so good on that, but he had no idea if we could change the gears before the factory ships it. Can I contact the factory myself and straighten this up. You all know as well as I do the price we pay to drive these vehicles, so you want what you asked for. Any help like where to find the factory's number would be great, just hope this isn't something I have to fix through the dealer, he has already made the sale, so he doesn't have to kiss my *** anymore.

From what I understand, all of the HD's are built with 3.73's unless you order with other gears. I believe the 4x4 TRX's are built with 4.10's.

That was my undertanding too.

I think the way it goes is you have to option the lower and higher gear sets on the 4x4 SRWs'. Otherwise you get the 3.73s' standard.

If it was optioned, no idea if you can change your VON equip. Dealer should be able to answer that one. I don't have a lot of confidence in Customer Assistance as they always refer you back to the dealer?

Hi Rusty,

You've ordered yours 2 wks ago and you have a VIN number already? Wow. I've ordered mine OVER a month ago now, and Ram customer assistance still does not have a VIN. Guess I need to go into dealer to see if they know what is going on or whether or not they have been provided a VIN or have I just been out of the loop. 2010 Ram Mega Laramie 3500 SRW 4X4

I sat along side, the ordering screen while the sales manager "Ordered" mine.
3:73 was standard on mine. LIke Apache had said, The order placer had to make a selection on the order system in order to option for another gear ratio. At least this is what I have witnessed first hand.

I ordered about three weeks ago and have a vin. for my 2010 Laramie Crew 4X4 with manual transmission. 3.42 is the standard on my configuration, any other gear set is an option. I went with the 3.42's.

I ordered the manual transmission as well, and the build sheet says 3.42s. The dealer cannot answer my question of how to get it switched to 3.73 so I am asking if you guys for some guidence. I know its a stupid situation to be in. Is there any specific reason you went with 3.42 over the 3.73 with the manual?

My current '03 is a manual with 3.73's and I would guess that I have used first gear less than a dozen times in over 200K miles. That includes a lot of towing a boat and various box trailers, rarely more than 12K pounds. I spend a lot of time on the highway and would have used a "seventh" gear every day. For my circumstances it was an easy decision, I would go for the lowest (numerically) gearset that is offered every time.

Same here, with waiting on VIN...I ordered a day before you.. only aSRW Auto.

Sat in a DRW crew cab today. They had BigHorn model with cloth seats with folddown seat in front, and a Laramie model vented leather bucket. I was disappointed the vented leather bucket seats were not really MUCH of an improvement (harder than I thought it would have been, not too supportive) as far as comfort. My current '07 model with leather bucket seats are not much worse. I thought the '09 1500 Laramie Leather bucket seats (more comfortable, supportive, more padding) were suppose to be what they were putting in the new 2010's. I have sat in the '09 1500 Laramies and the leather seats in front, were nicer but I think lacked ventilation feature.

'08 up Ford King Ranch saddle (best) or even their Lariat leather buckets seamed a LOT better as far as comfort. Just my backs opinion.

Did anyone order the truck with the factory installed brake controller or the B&W Turnover Ball Option?
