Tranny Temp sender install

I'm putting in a tranny temp gauge on my '12 w/ the auto trans, just wondering which cooler line is the hot line to the cooler, the upper or lower line? I've been searching all night, can't find anything, thanks!

Do you think your factory temp gauge is not working or something? Just wondering why a second gauge is all.

Typically I put the trans temp sensor into the transmission pan. If you get an aftermarket transmission pan, get a deep pan. It will drop transmission fluid temps by 25-50 deg's.

I run an AFE deep transmission pan on both my trucks.

I have mine installed in the Mag-Hytec pan and my readings in the summer when pulling my trailer have never exceed 180F even in the mountains on a 6 to 7% grade. I have two extra quarts and the added AL fin pan all help in keeping the trans to run cooler then the stock pan.

I don't have a factory trans temp gauge? not that I know of anyway, is it in the Evic somewhere? A new tranny pan is the long term plan but not in the cards right away (new to me 5th wheel burned the budget). Guys on here and on the CF are saying its best to put the probe in the hot line to the cooler as that's the hottest the oil will be. It makes sense to me and a $10 "T" is alot cheaper and hopefully isn't that big a PITA to install, I just need to know which line is which. I'm thinking the top line out of the tranny is the hot one, is this correct?

I guess if you really need a redundant tranny temp gauge you could go this route. http://www.genosgarage.com/ACU-TEMP-...UTEMP_ADAPTER/
I put one of these on my dad's truck in 06 when he got it and it has worked flawlessly.

Here is what diesel manor says http://www.dieselmanor.com/diy/CMS67.../D67image4.htm

I figured it out, I got the truck warmed up, parked it till I could touch the lines, then started the truck and watch the line temps with a lazer, I ended up with exactly what is in that diesel manor pic.
I hadn't gone that deep into the Evic, I didn't know those gauges were in there, lol. I bought the 3 gauge pillar pod and pyro, boost and trans temp gauges, maybe redundant but its more convenient and looks good too. Thanks guys

A mini max will also display all what the ECM reads and more.

Well at least you got it figured out. Now with the DIC, mini max and the analog gauge you could watch all three temps and see which lies the most. lol I'm not even sure what max oil temps you should be looking out for on the DIC versus a sensor right in the hot line. Seems the hot line temp would be the one to watch for though. My truck seems to build water temp more than anything else when pulling in hotter weather with 10k or so.

There used to be an outfit that made a replacement line with the built in bung but that was for a 48re trans in the third gens.

Yeah, I'll be pulling 12-14k so I want to make sure I know whats going on all the time. I was going to run a Smarty but with the issues its having on the '12s, I went with the H&S at the last minute. Once they get the smarty dialed in, I'll probably get one. If I'd known there was a trans temp in the evic, I'd have put a fuel pressure gauge in that hole. I guess that's what I get for not reading the manual, lol. I think knowing what temp the oil is at coming out of the trans is the best measure of how hard its working. So far the highest I've seen is 160, I haven't compared what it says to the evic, I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

I run a cat 2 micron fuel filter and an autometer 0-30 fuel pressure gauge. I plumbed my fuel pressure in on the outlet side of the fuel filter. I only replace fuel filters when my fuel pressure gets lower than 10 psi. I probably have 50000km's on the cat filter and 10000km's on the cummins filter.
