tranny temp sender
tranny temp sender
Hello,
I read somewhere - and cannot find it again - that you may install an aftermarket tranny temp sender where the stock one is located as long as you place a resistor in line between the new sender and the factory wire.
True? Close? Dead wrong?

yes....get a 1k ohm resistor from radio shack and put it between the factory temp sender wires, insulate it up and drive away. You will have to also install a bushing adapter to neck the factory pipe bung down to 1/8" NPT. I made sure the probe didn't extend down into the line much and hamper flow....but with the adapter, this doesn't happen anyway.
The resistor trick only works with the RH tranny used until '96, it won't work with your '98 RE since the temp sender is internal to the tranny.
You will have to get an output line for a pre-96 that has a port in it, you don't need to do anything to your stock sender then.
