Smarty JR
Does anybody have any real life results they can share ? Looking at a Smarty JR to improve the poor fuel mileage of my 2012 3500 crew cab. Reviews and web pages all say "improved mileage" . Just what is "improved" ? I don't consider 1 to 2 mpg for $495 tuner an improvement. Would take a long time to pay for the tuner at that rate. I still need leave exhaust stock for the time being. The 100 hp increase would be nice but the truck has enough power now to pull the 4 horse goose neck trailer, 24' 5th wheel camper & or boat here in the mountains of Montana but mileage is poor. Got better out of my 06 Chev dually, Duramax. I get 15 hwy empty at 62-65 mph, not the 70 mph speed limit we have on 2 lane roads. Just completed a 1800 mile trip to north Saskatchewan pulling a 16' aluminum fishing boat at 12 mpg. Can be lower pulling the 4 horse loaded or the camper boat combo. These are hand figures ( miles / gals ) not dash computer.
Part of the problem is #1 truck only has 10,000 miles, #2 had to dump the Texas all season tires for Cepek Fun Country tires that are functional in the mud & snow and have the shoulders to hold chains. They do roll hard !

MPG with smarty
Hey, there.
I deleted and installed Smarty JR in June 2013 on my 2012 CTD CC 2500 ST longbed.
I deleted at 5000 miles, because I was so sick of the throttle response. It was like dial-up internet. I just unplugged all electronics and went with a turbo back to stock muffler exhaust system.
Much better throttle response, not much smoke. I leave it on 100 hp and if I want less power I just don't press the pedal as much. It gets it, especially in the torque band.
Mpg improvement is about 3-4 mpg. About 17 in town and 19 on the highway running the speed limit.
Part of the mpg improvement must be attributed to the engine getting broken in; it is better now (45k) than immediately after the mods. Maybe 1/2 to 1 MPG.
If I could only get the tranny to get a clue!

LMAO !!!! That is the best definition of stepping on the pedal of a stock Dodge cummins I have heard. "DIAL UP INTERNET". The power is there but you have to wait for the hampers to get the cage rolling. I'm going to give the Smarty JR a try. Thanks guys for the input.

I'm not a 4th gen (you guys typically get better mileage than our 3rd gens) but I'm still "fairly" stock and tuned with a SmartyJr and a street tune. I've picked up 1.6 mpg towing 7k up the Sierra Nevadas and a hair over 3 mpg running empty in the desert.
This is on sw-2 (70 hp), TM on 3 (next highest timing advance) and torque management on stock (4th gens don't have this option and keep the stock torque management settings)
I expect that I'll see more gains when I delete.
