Nitto
Has anyone out there owned Nitto Durra Grapplers? I pull a fifth wheel and we also need a tire that is good in the snow. I like the tread for pulling just worried about snow.8

I had 285/70/17E Dura Grapplers on my truck for about 60K miles, and I'm still kicking myself for not replacing them when I had to get new tires. Let myself get talked into these Bridgestone Dueler ATs and I wish I could go back to the Nittos. The Dura Grapplers, IMO, are fantastic tires. Did quite a bit of snow driving with them - probably up to 16-18 inches a couple of times - and they did well. I don't know how they'd do in back country snow covered roads, but driving in the snow before roads got plowed was never a problem. They were actually decent on ice and in the rain as well. I'll be putting them back on this truck, or on the truck's replacement, when the time comes.

The 285/70/17 size seems to be fine. I did adjust the pinion factor with both tire sizes so my mileage/speedo was always accurate (I can do that on an 04). I did not see any change to mileage with the 285/75/17 Dura Grapplers, but I have seen about a one mile decrease with the 285/70/17 Bridgestones. I think that's probably due to the more aggressive tread design of the Dueler A/Ts. They're also much louder than the Dura Grapplers were.

(not sure if you were asking both of us) I didn't notice any difference in mpgs going from the stock Michelins on my current truck with the 6-speed auto and 3.73s. My previous truck with the 4-speed auto and 3.73s I lost about 1.5 mpg.

Next summer my wife and I are going to pull a fifth wheel from Pa to Calf and back so 1.5 mpg will hurt. The 285's would look much better! I just have not made up my mind on the size.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, that was my 2003 with the 4*RE auto. My 2011 (like yours) didn't take an MPG hit when I installed the 285s for whatever reason, probably the better tranny ratios. You'll be fine, based on my experience anyway.

Get the Nitto 285/75/17E Dura Grapplers. You won't be sorry. I've got them and they certainly did not hurt my MPGs. and the gearing is way better (2100rpm @ 70 mph). I have the 6 spd. G56 tranny. Do you have auto or manual? If you have the auto they may be a little tall, because the auto runs much lower rpms on the highway. They work great in the snow and ice too.
