Need help

I had a 2007 Dodge Ram diesel 2500 where I had a custom front bumper hitch installed so I could carry two bikes. My lease ran out and I now have a 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 (not leased) and I found that the front bumper hitch will not fit my new truck. Does anyone know if there is a manufacturer who custom makes a bolt on hitch for my truck? I can't find one here in Calgary and weld shops want about 350 bucks to build me one. I think this is a little high.

Geeze, if you had to custom make the first one, I would think you have to do the same thing again.. I haven't seen too many front hitches on the Dodges.

You might try Backwoods Bumpers, who advertise here on DTR.

I'm in the same boat you are. I had one on my 01.5 2500. I want one for my 2011 3500. Folks have said that there is no difference between the 2010's and 2011's but I don't see anything listed.

I did not have it custom built. It was available for all Dodge HD's from 2002-2009 and came of the shelf at my local hitch shop.

It looks like nobody wants to build one because the chassis are so new. If I find one I will post on here.

How close does the old hitch come to fitting? Take some pictures and post the conflicts? I bet you could modify the old unit to fit. Its just welding.

I thought the same thing but I took it to The Welding Shop just off Barlow Trail and the guy tells me it's not possible. I may have my brother-in-law put it up on the hoist at the family farm and see if it is possible to fabricate a fit.

I have looked at my 2011 not that close though. Anyway my thought was to remove the two tow attachment pads and replace them with 1/2 inch plate with the tow points built in, from there weld a cross piece with the draw bar. Only down side is the hitch would be VERY high and require a large drop. Other than that a custom bumper would be the way to go. Need that front hitch.

Why don't you carry the bikes on the rear ?

I'm assuming 10 speeds here, not harleys.

I'm also thinking if you source the material and do the measuring that someone will weld one up for you for a minimal cost.

I pull a 34 Ft. Jayco Eagle 5th wheel and it is not recommended to put a hitch on the rear. I have had one bad experience with that scenario and don't want to go through that again. I may end up putting the bikes in my rear bunkhouse and wrap them in blankets. It's just too bad that some manufacturer has not come up with a fix, but maybe they are not as popular as I thought.
