My new truck is supposed to arrive this week so I guess it's time to decide what to modify.
I don't want to void the warranty. Even with a warranty, its scary enough to own something this complicated. Does anyone else appreciate the irony that half the peple on this site seem to be paying exorbitant amounts for extended warranties while the other half are cheerfully giving up the warranty that they already have paid for?
According to what I've read so far, it looks like the only thing I can get away with is unplugging the egr connector. If I do that, I'll get 1 or 2 mpg improvement. The check engine light will come on but if I plug it back in I can turn it off. ( I'll have to look up the procedure, but I know it's in here) The dealer will be able to tell that there was an egr malfunction, but not what it was. Is this still the concensus, or has anyone had any problems (either mechanical or warranty) doing this?
Since the light will be on most of the time, would it b a good idea to buy a code reader (which one?) and occasionally check for codes just in case the light is trying to tell me about a real problem. Naturally I wouldn't know about the real problem because the light would be on anyway.
