It gets rid of the restrictive factory grid heater and opens up the intake plenium for better airflow to the rear cylinders. When i deleted mine i went with the WCC grid heater intake horn. It was a nice piece.

Yeah just as Mega said. Although, so far I have opted to not get the grid heater, I was planning to get it after the first of the year but, since it hasn't even hesitated to start at around 35 deg, I may just save the money for more important mods such as head studs.

Definitely worth doing!

OK, trust me brother, I have amazing testing with all GDP products for the 6.7L and all of them are flawless. I have spoken to Richard a million times throughout my build and he is truly a "Rare Breed". If you choose GDP, you have made a great decision!!

Ok, enough with that. The Intake Plenum provides many more benefits other than lowering EGT's. In my testing the plenum without deleting the grid heater is really not that beneficial. It does open up air to the rear cylinders and give some clearance for water meth, but, the grid heater is a huge issue. My personal recommendation is to get rid of the plenum grid heater and install the TV grid heater that Richard offers. That way you have the best of both worlds and a 20 minute install/removal between cold and hot months. The plenum, with the grid heater removed is the best bet.

Without doing the full intake mods you will not see terrific results with EGT's. Read my SIG, I saw more than a 400 degree drop in EGT's when I installed every GDP item that is currently available. Allot has to do with tune, injectors, and timing but GDP products do exactly what they are intended to do and work 100% flawlessly every time.

Richard is great! (Richard if your reading this, I'm waiting for your announcement of a GDP Intercooler) Haha

Hit me up with a PM if you want specific mods with EGT changes

Yeah, I agree, my first purchase with GDP was excellent (well my wife bought it, but Richard was awesome when I ran into that issue with the gasket). I have plans to buy more of their products - probably after I commit to my last re-enlistment sometime next year - along with a manual trans swap among a ton of other "goodies".

Since I don't romp on it much, i think my EGT's aren't going to get much lower than around 700-850 cruising the 30 miles to/from work--with my current mods. Flat and level, EGT's are around low to mid 700's (sometimes down into the high 600's), while hitting a slight hill it may get up to around 850ish. I really wish H&S would enable data logging on the BM/MM so we can really gauge how well each mod performs.

I currently have my tuner set to level 3 and Wild or Hot. I was running Level 2 and Mild but I didn't like it to much and think so far my best mileage comes from level 3 and Hot. I'll be taking the same route to Farmington as we did a few months ago, so it'll be interesting to see how well it helps with mileage.

Look Brother, 1st of all I am Active Duty as well and I got 4.5 yrs left before retirement so I appreciate your dedication and wish you a safe last enlistment.

As far as your EGT's go, DO NOT WORRY, what you are seeing is well within baby EGT's for our trucks.

Do remember though, the more power, the more EGT's. Keep your de-fuel at 1350 cause the H&S is a little slow at decreasing the fuel and it can spike as much as 100 degrees for a few seconds over what you have it set for.

Please remember, if you are over stock power levels your torque converter is extremely common to slippage. There are two ways I recommend combatting this. Make sure you do not lug the transmission and romp on it before 1st applying enough trhottle to get a downshift and being over 2K rpm. Another way is simply using the manual shift button but it pretty much delays every upshift so you have to shift (In my experience) 800-1200 RPM early.

If you do this, your stock transmission should handle some extra power.

Hey Brother, sorry for the long hiatus! Been working non stop up until we left for NM between work and preparing my truck then we all been sick up until a few days ago. So I'm trying to get caught up now...

Congrats to you as well on nearing retirement. I will have 6 yrs left when I re-enlist. Been struggling trying to decide if I should stay or go so I can get established while I am fairly young and marketable in the field I want to work in or jump on board with one of the defense contractors with my current job.

I figured as much as far as the EGTs go. I keep my defuel at 1250 and Boost @ 28PSI to keep me on the safe side. Hasn't failed me yet. I tried what you recommended with the tranny. Definitely makes a different. When manually shifting, its seems like it performs extremely well when I upshift at 2000 RPMs, very little delay and I can get through the gears pretty quick.

Thanks again for your service and as always, I enjoy learning from you on your mods and look forward to future feedback from you and everyone else!

One last thing. I think my mileage was fairly impressive on the way to and from NM with my family and I filling up all 6 seats, along with our dog and the bed filled with luggage and gifts.

Going to NM: 16 MPG - with the longest 8 hr drive ever (took us about 12 hours dealing with a one month old and a 2yr old who don't travel well lol). A lot of stops, the first 4 hours we had to stop what seemed like every 30 minutes to deal with one of the youngest two. Then we finally had to stop to eat dinner - since we bring our own stuff we just parked somewhere and ate. In all, the truck probably idled for about 3 hours worth (high idle activated).

On the way home: 18 MPG - Pretty impressive going highway speeds with all of us in the truck. I wonder what my mileage would be like on the same route that I took by myself last year when I achieved 22.7 MPG?
