Hey guys looking at updating the truck. will a 2007 smarty work on a 2010 truck with software update? Just wondering so i can keep my..... abilities haha

 

I believe it will you just need to make sure that the Smarty is not vin-locked to another vehicle.

I would assume that if you have .... abilities... on your current truck that the Smarty is one of the older "non-US" specific models. If that is the case, then yes, it will work on a 2010 with the right software update. Getting your hands on that software is the "trick" as they are no longer available for download from Smarty. They are out there... you just have to search for them.

 

Would a smarty jr off a 07 5.9 work on a later truck as well?

 

It should as long as you have the latest files for that year of truck. Like the file I have which is for the S67; 23ME would not work on a 2011 or later truck since it was written back before Nov 2010.
Also I believe no Smarty will work on the 2013 and later trucks.

I think there's a reason Mads Electronics built and advertised separate tuners for each engine. Their website shows J-06 (first Smarty JR) for trucks up to 2007 (5.9 engines), and J-67 to work with the 6.7 engines from 2007 - 2012.

I'm all ears if someone truly has evidence of a Smarty JR 5.9 (J-06) functioning with a 6.7 engine.

 

I highly doubt a Smarty for a 5.9 would work for 6.7. Never tried it, but like stated above there is a reason MADs has made different tuners for each motor

 

Ah I sold it anyway. Doubt I'd ever use it again as I'd get a 2014 or newer.

 

I'm wondering if I should bother searching for programming for my '08 s67 to work on a '14?

 

Completely different ECM, Black. It appears that the encryption is hard to crack as the only company I know of that has any type of tuner for the 13+ is Bully Dog and they require you to send them your ECM to unlock it so you can run their GT or any other tuning device.

The Bully Dog is not a delete tune for the 13.5 and up trucks; it is just a performance improvement with the emission equipment left on the truck.

You are absolutely right. Figured everyone knows delete tunes are nonexistent for 13+. I don't recall them ever making delete capable tuners, other than the hardware used by H&S.
