What to expect with tranny?

Im currently looking for Cummins primarily to pull hay and 30ft camper...I have read about many issues with 15-17 68RF,, and occasional in 18...I am disappointed to hear some say they wish they had purchased Duramax Has any improvements been made in 68 since 15. I don't want to pay 47-60k then have a 7-10k tranny rebuild.....Ive decided to look at 3500 with Aisin, doesn't appear to be as many issues ? Any advice appreciated...

I own a '11 with the 68re and my friend just picked up a '18 with the Aisin, his truck with the Aisin shifts much better and more crisp, where as my 68 has to unlock the converter- shift- then relock the converter on every upshift causing wear and a sluggish feel. His Aisin likes to shift locked up and is much more solid feeling.

There have not been that many transmission failures on stock trucks, if you look for real first hand accounts few exist. It’s always my buddy, uncle, cousin, had issues with a 68, or my Tuned truck.

Drive them both, they drive different. Then decide how often you tow and if you are comfortable spending the money on the Aisin. They are both solid units. I have never worried about the 68 in my 12 and I don’t worry about it in my 13.

Do all 3500 have the Aisin or is it the DRW only?

It’s an option on the 3500 even the DRW.If your looking at the truck pop the hood, if the trans dipstick is on the right it’s an Aisin, left side 68. Don’t ever believe what a dealer tells you, look for yourself.

thanks for the feedback, unfortunately these are out of state. The only thing I can compare to is my '01 which needed a new tranny at 166k

With proper servicing and a stock tune, the 68RFE and the AS69RC will perform well and last a long time.
