Weird Trans Blip

Had a weird thing happen with my auto trans about a month back. Was driving around town for a couple of hours. I stopped at the hardware store and when I came back out the trans did something strange. I fired up and put the trans in "D". However, the display showed "4". I tried the up/down button with no luck. Tried reverse, backed up a couple of feet, then tried "D" again. Still showing "4". Had to shut the truck off and restart in order to clear. Never happened again. Didn't throw any codes or anything.
Anyone else have that happen?

Truck is bone stock 2010 3500 Megacab.

You know, my truck did something similar when I was down in Alamogordo, NM for training. It was in May this year, stopped at the Verizon store, in/out in about 5 minutes, started the truck up and it was stuck in 4th as well, but I could barely move forward. Reverse worked fine. Shut her down and restarted and it was back to normal. I am beginning to think hot weather and these trucks don't behave very nice. I see you are in Edmonton so our issue probably wasn't due to hot weather and it was just a fluke for me since it hasn't happened since.

Happened to me three times. No stored codes but the dealer documented it. The third being today. I tried re starting it and it wouldn't go back to normal, so I drove straight to the dealer.
After 4 hours i was told they replaced a solenoid in the trans.
Seems good now.
It won't pull the skin off a grape starting out in fourth.....

Had the same thing happen with my truck about a year ago. I finally disconnected the battery cables waited about a half hour then reconnected the cables and then everything was fine. I assumed it must have been a computer glitch. I have not had the problem since.

yes, its called limp mode. it can happen out of nowhere and usually letting it sit and restart fixes it, or disconnecting batteries for a second can reset it back to normal.

Wow, haven't checked this for awhile.
Kinda glad I'm not the only one. It's been great ever since.
Fingers crossed.
