2000 with electrical blip issue
2000 with electrical blip issue
Hey everyone.
This is a new one on me maybe some you can steer me in the right direction here. I have 2000 CTD with a manual 5 speed transmission. It will start fine and idle perfectly. However when I start to move the electrical power blips "usually momentarily". When this happens the Speedo goes crazy and all the light on the dash come on and of course the buzzer chimes. It almost like the turning the key off for a split second and then back on. Any Ideas???

My first thought would be the ignition switch.
However, a relatively easy and free attempt would be to remove and clean all your body grounds and battery terminal connections to see if that will help. Also check the cables for corrosion at the heads.

I have cleaned the batt terminals. The grounds seem to be okay.. I was also reading about the #12 fuse “I think it’s called a key off fuse” that can blow if you have been replacing sensors... I just replaced the speedo sensor.. I will give the grounds another look..
Like I said before it seems strange that it only does it when I move the truck...

That will not do, you have to unbolt, clean with scotchbright and then penetrating oil or brake clean or contact cleaner and reconnect the grounds. You can't look and tell. I'd check the block ground on the drivers side below the battery tray 1st. Are you getting any codes in the OBDII?

I'd put that at the top of the list after the grounds. Recheck all the connections you moved. Look for any wires comming out of their terminals in the connectors or a connector pin that may be crushed or miss aligned.

I had a 2000 that would do similar things, but only when towing and only when it was -30 or colder. It would chime, but no no codes would be thrown and every light on the dash would light up then go away. Trouble shot that thing like crazy to no avail. Then when I saw the cracked 53 block start to leak, she got traded off on the 6.7 and have not looked back since...
