They've tweaked the tow/haul mode
Finally got the new '10 truck home a week and a half ago and went to grab a load of water (500 imp gallons) with the poly-tank in the bed of the truck. Left the water fill station in tow/haul mode and headed back home a different route than usual and wound up going downhill with about 5k pounds on my back end. I eased off the throttle to coast downhill and much to my surprise the tranny downshifted, I'm assuming because there was no fuel being fed into the engine and we were around 80 km/hr. The 48RE in my 04.5 would never do that and I didn't have the exhaust brake on either ... might have to try that next time to see what kind of difference there might be.
Just thought y'all might be interested .. it certainly caught me off guard.

I wouldn't say that. If it's not steep enough downhill or there isn't a big enough load pushing you then use one or the other. For years, everyone wanted the Alli in the Dodge for the good tow/haul stuff and were adding e brakes. Now you got your cake and can eat it too!

Thats only thing I loved about my old Ford 6.0.. You could turn on the tow haul and actually down shift the tranny while using the throttle. You could push the throttle to the floor quickly and it would down shift to the next gear. It was called a forced down shift in the manual..
I love my 68rfe with the EB, works the way an engine brake should work. The engine slows you down and the transmission downshifts on its own to get you slowed down. Not like chebby or furd that the EB only comes on when you apply the truck brakes. In my book, that is counter intuitive. IMHO, the engine brake is there to save your service brakes, NOT to supplement them.
I didnt say i didnt like the eb or the tow/haul, just when used together. I now use eb and paddle shift on downhills without t/h as i dont like how t/h keeps downshifting and slowing me more than needed. And yes i could just give it throttle but i've learned how to use it without throttle or brakes for most downhills.

I'm using the enhanced EB H&S tune on my truck, its like night and day different that the factory. The down shifts are more aggressive, so you get more effective braking. The turbo is also abit more responsive. Even with the tow/haul mode turned off, and the eb turned on, the truck will downshift automatically. Nothing aggressive like the tow/haul, but you'll feel it working.
I'd kinda forgotten about this post. I might have to check out the H&S. Whenever I haul now I use both tow/haul and the exhaust brake and it actually seems to improve the mileage too?!
