Filter Price Sticker Shock

I took the new fuel hog into the dealer this morning to get serviced and have a diagnostic check run on it.

I figured with 5000 miles it was time for the first oil change even though it didn't tell me it needed one. I figured since I am going the oil change i should probably go ahead and change the fuel filter and air filter. Boy was I taken a-back when they told me the price at the parts counter.

I decided to call my local Cummins Store instead. Saved $2 on the fuel filter (no big savings there) but the shocker was the air filter... I saved over $15 by getting it from Cummins rather than purchasing through my dealer. I don't think there is any real difference between Mopar brand and Fleetguard other than what it says on the outside of the filter.

Just thought I would pass on the information.

Must of us buy are filters from on line web stores like; Geno's Garage or others.
The Fleetguard Air filter is $23.95 part number AF-27684, Fits MY07.5 to MY10. The Fleetguard oil filter "Stratapore" part number LF16035, is $12.95 fits MY89 to present. The Mopar fuel Filter part number FS_MOP68065608AA for MY10 is $24.95.They offer the Fleetguard, but they say call for price part number FS43255, for MY10.
I have found out that Geno's prices are a lot cheaper then the dealer and I buy in quantity to help spread the shipping cost over all of my filters.

Just an FYI. Most folks find the first oil change a bit difficult. Dodge tends to make certain the oil filter doesn't just fall off. you might consider letting the dealer do the first service and ask about discount coupons for the oil changes and other services. I got 4 oil changes for $200 and another member has recently reported he got 4 for $160. I'm just throwing it out there. For $50, I'm not getting under the truck.

I had to jab a screwdriver through the side of mine to get it loose.

If you dont like the price of the stock air filters then dont get an aftermarket one

X2, always take it in to the dealer for the first oil change. I've seen the factory filters pretty much have to be chistled off before.

My first filter came off pretty easy using a filter socket and a long extension. The second one I put on gave me a hard time. I remove the air tube then use a filter wrench at the top of the filter where it is the strongest. I wear heavy gloves incase the filter wrench lets go. Nothing worse then breaking a sweat just trying to get the filter off.

CAUTION: Be vigilant about your fuel filter number. My filter started to reach its limit Friday night, while running over Loveland Pass in CO. I picked one up at the only open auto parts store, after discussion with the owner as to the different filters on the 2010's. I found out when I went to change it later, that the one he had was not correct. I called the only dealer today, and after a VIN search was told that during Chrysler's bankruptcy, they and Fleetguard could not see eye to eye, and several different units were installed. The number you reference is the same as mine, and there are none within 100 miles. Apparently it was used on only a small number of engines, and they are suggesting changing the filter housing??$#@$%#%^. Not good when you need one, and it will be 3 days, with the weekend!!!
Check before you have a problem!

I wrapped a piece of sand paper around the first filter, but I think I actually pulled a muscle in my jaw trying to get it loose.
