Surging

So just as it says above, noticing some surging on the 11. Really seem to notice it when I am just leaving the house. Its 25mph thru town, so going pretty slow. Just at 15k miles, 100% bone stock, except for the spring and tang taken out of the EGR. I do have a CEL, but pretty sure its from the EGR "tweak." I changed the fuel filter last week, thought the surging was cured. Truck seems kind doggy, but then again, I have been driving my 94 a lot lately, and he is far from stock

I don't mind taking the truck in, but I was hoping to correct the issue myself because I don't want to deal with the EGR warranty issue.

The surging may be caused from the EGR. WIth the engine at low load, it will be cycling the EGR, where it will be pinching back on the intake with the throttle valve in the intake to draw in the EGR gasses. With that not functioning, now its just choking back the intake air to the engine. Thats my guess.

Thank you lil dog, what you are saying makes sense. So I would guess way to corrrect it would be to fix my EGR, or put a tuner on? Still holding out for the Smarty, but I understand the Smarty Jr is available? Would that be able too fool my EGR?

My stock '10 did exactly this last week. It has 8400 on the clock and I unplugged the EGR at around 6200. The surging always occurred the first 10 seconds of a cold start but around 8000 miles, it suddenly started bucking around 50 mph in 6th then went away. Over the next few days, it got worse and worse until it eventually became almost unbearable. I pulled the plunger and it just kept getting worse. Three days ago, I replaced the plunger and plugged the EGR back in. The bucking/surging immediately went away. I ran it for another 150 miles plugged in (even cycled the key 5 times to reset the CEL and it disappeared). After 50 miles and the return of the EGR sluggishness, I unplugged it again and it acts just like it did at 6200 miles. As a side note, the lie-o-meter went from 17.3 unplugged to 15.6 plugged in and back to 17.2 unplugged.

Also, my surging acted almost like ignition cut-out as the bucking/surging was very sharp like ignition cut-out, not sluggish like lack of air unless the air restriction was so severe as to prohibit combustion.

Yeah its a pain that's for sure. Frustratin too. Spend all that money on a brand new truck, try to make the engine last longer, and run better, and then all this crap. It makes me want to drive my old 12 valve more than the new truck
