Regen?
Regen?
Bought my 10 CTD about 1 year ago. Dash display came on day I bought it saying something like "filter 80% begin regen" or something like that. Then it gave a message saying "regen complete". Can't remember the exact message but scared the c##p out of me one hour out of Kellog.
I have not seen the message again, use the truck to carry a 3800 pound camper and tow a Light boat for the most part, occasionally use it when other vehicle is in the shop or kids borrow it.
Is it doing regens without giving a message.
I like the truck, drives nice, power for carrying the camper, not afraid to pass someone even with almost 4k in the bed.

I bought my truck from Dave Smith's back in May 2010, all the way up until I did my deletes last year, I never got an indication saying my truck was in regen. I had 27k miles on the truck when I deleted. When I bought my truck we drove from Kellogg to Great Falls, MT pulling a very light load . The only thing noticeable was that the mileage was significantly better than the 08 MC Hemi I traded in pulling the same load. I always wondered if there was suppose to be some indication when in regen, but I think the only indication is when you pull up the economy gauge and you see the mileage take a dive.

I think you will usually only see the message if the truck gets to a certain percentage in the filter without being able to complete a regen due to driving style. If you're working the truck and drive it on longer trips occasionally it will regen without you knowing it happened unless you stare at the mpg's all the time.

I travel approx 90 miles(highway) round trip to and from work. Most of my day to day travel is highway when not working. It seems my 2012 is going into regen either once every trip to or from work or every three times at most. It's driving me nuts. The truck can get great fuel milage when not in afterburner, like avg 16+mpg but as soon as that regen starts it drops my avg by about 1 mpg and the instant mpg drops down around 10mpg. Ive tried babying it and tried driving aggressively and seems to be no difference. It was never this bad before. I could go about a tank of fuel and see only on regen take place. Now it's once every 45-90 miles.
Having said that, I'm due for an oil change. Could thah have anything to do with that, or am I getting bad fuel?? The truck is a rocket and begs me to get a speeding ticket, so I try to keep it on cruise at 65-70 mph. So lets just say that from time to time, I make sure the pipes are cleaned out on the on-ramps. I have yet to ever see any soot come from the pipe, so seems to be running clean.
When I get my oil changed, I'll ask to speak with a diesel mechanic at the dealership. Most of the time they are **** on a bull!! Thanks for any input if anybody has some.

I was thinking it the diesel station I was using...started a new project, and they seemed to have really good prices (an were therefore busy), so I stopped there a couple times. The first couple tanks were fine, then I started regens way too quick, about 50 miles into that last tank. I filled up the next time at my normal station by my house, and it seemed to slow down, though not the normal 150 miles (maybe got to 80-90 miles per cycle).
But, I have had it happen a couple other times, and they were using either of the 2 stations I normally hit, and would last 2 tanks (~2 weeks), then would be fine.
My other reasoning was that I might be parking it before the regen is done, so therefore it hits the limit switch quicker because it was not "empty" to begin with. But it short-cycled a couple times when I was driving down to Virginia, and I know I drove at least 40 miles after I first noticed it was in a regen...the one trip was 4 regens in a 170 mile trip.
Some days I jokingly wonder if I had a Friday or Monday truck with some of the weird things it does, then goes back to normal...so maybe a Tuesday or Thursday build, then.

I think what you guys are describing is normal - same thing happens to me on my commutes on occasion. One thing I've started doing is kicking down into 4th gear when I notice it going into regen (read out goes to 13mpg instead of 20), 4th makes it jump to 2100rpms (at 50mph) and the regen seems to end sooner, like after five or seven miles instead of 10-12.
Just a quick follow up to the regen issue. I went to the dealership and asked the write up guy about what was going on. He did have a clue about what I meant about regeneration!! I asked to speak with a diesel mechanic and the write up guy said "oh, you have a diesel!" I said that explains why you guys call me every 3k miles for an oil change!! All the service guy knew was I had a dodge! That's it. So before talking to anybody at the dealership, ask for one of the diesel mechs!
So the mechanic comes out, I explain the situation, he says that is way too many times for a regen. He said let me check the dodge website and see if there are any TSB's to update your computer with. He came back and said there were a few updates. Computer updated an the truck hasn't gone into regeneration since (approx 200 miles so far). I believe it was TSB 018-001-13. I can't find the details on what was in the update, but my avg MPG is rising. All I can say is I can't wait till I can rip this s@&t off my engine!!!! Thank you for your replies!

Mine just regen'd today and it said "80% full regeneration required now". Just drove her at 65 mph for 5 miles and it was over. But it will only go down to 70% full now. Have a 2011 dodge 2500 CTD. Only 3 more years and the warranty is off hehe
