Question Regen ???

Other than the mpg lie-o-meter dropping like the stock market, how do we know when the truck goes into regen ??? Is there an idiot light or a alert on the message center ???

Trucks got 40,000+ miles on it and I have no clue when it's regened ???

Nope. No lights. If I come to a stop while its in regen, or just stopped regen, I can normally smell the extra fuel and exhaust. My wife calls me weird but my nose is sensitive. LOL

No, there is no indicator for the regen process. The only way to be sure is to either have a EGT gage or a monitor that shows the regen process.

That sucks, as I'm sure my truck lives in regen. but i have no way of knowing.
I drive 20min 1way in light city driving. In winter the truck barely worms up.
but if i get to take to take it out on the interstate on the weekend it gets much better mileage the next week(lie-o-meter).

When my 08 was stock I installed gauges just for that reason. With EGT you can at least know when you are going through a regen and drive accordingly. The stock programming has become much better over the years, but that was my indicator. I agree it should have a small dash indicator for the Regen.

You could buy an Edge insight. It has a PID monitor that will tell you when the truck goes in and out of regen. Fortunately for me, I have not had a regen in 1.5 years, CEL and code trouble free and LOTS of city driving!!!

Another way to know when your in a regen is by the awful exhaust smell. Mine smells horrible. Oh and when you stop and get out the exhaust is popping and crackling.
But now I have the Insight and I get an alarm everytime it regens. I bought it for that as well as the gauges....

it only tells ya when the dpf is 80% or greater full and it also won't let you toggle back to MPG or other functions until the regen process is completed

My truck always stays on the fuel econ screen, however just ther other day I was fooling around with it and was in vehichle info (water temp, engine hrs) section, while I was waiting on my sons school bus. Truck was idleing and it popped up dpf 80% full, regen required, told me it was starting the process and when it was finished. I pulled out just after the message came on and drove 45mph back roads on my way to the hwy. After 5 miles at this speed it said regen complete and went away.

Strangely my egr is unplugged and my dpf was stolen. Kindly the theif put a 4" tbe in its place. Guess the little box didnt reset the regen counter.....

16k miles total, 1st time I have ever seen it.

Is my truck different? Mine came on showing 70% full and sometime in the following week, worked up to 90% and at this time I watched my display and watched it clean itself. I did not notice any smell during this time. This was in early July and have not had this problem since.
