This is not intended as legal advice to be relied upon.

He may want to consider the liability issues with hauling that much weight. If your doing this for hire or commercial purposes, you are subject to license weight restrictions and not to mention having an accident while overloaded. I would suggest a 4500 or bigger vehicle designed for that type of work. If your the driver and know your overloaded, you have liability issues as well. The upgrade to a bigger vehicle would be much less expensive than the over load fines and possible legal liability involved, but I am risk adverse attorney. Good luck with the boss.

Can you give us the weights involved? I'm inclined to go with ljvsnyder and say "don't go there", but perhaps its not as bad as it sounds. More info is needed. Big difference with towing 24,000lbs and towing 30,000.

Ditto

A 5 car rig is a huge setup...

You may need to step up to a medium duty truck.

Headstuds, Steed Speed Manifold, Larger turbine, Injectors, Lift Pump, CP3 increase %, and get rid of the factory intake and grid heater by installing a GDP intake and Air Boss.

If you do those mods, then your truck will be super strong. All you will have to do is cut an 8-10 thousand dollar check.

First, in stock but deleted condition I'm not sure you can count on getting 500,000 miles pulling a 30,000 lb trailer. With that said, most power enhancements add to the stress on the driveline and put the expected engine life further at risk. If you delete the DPF and get caught by the Feds hauling in commercial service with the emissions disconnected you will be in some deep ****. The Fed's love to make examples of people that violate the law. Such prosecution or detection on a private rig is very unlikely. I have an interstate trucking company and as much as I'd like to rip the emissions crap off of the trucks the potential fines make me say no way.

I wouldn't be too worried about doing the deletes and getting caught. Unless you're running CA. Even then you'd probably be ok with the stealth deletes. I don't remember hearing of anyone getting in any trouble by DOT or the law for running deleted. I definitely wouldn't straight pipe it, though, you'll need some sort of muffler on there. I guess there can always be a first.

I'd probably go with the H&S mini-max over bullydog, though. I don't hear of many using the bullydog on the various forums, so maybe they are OK, but the H&S is proven by many to be a good tuner with great customer service. H&S also offers trans tuning if you have an auto.

Now, a 5 car is LARGE and I don't think you're going to see anywhere near 500,000 miles out of a 3500 ram running with a loaded 5 car behind all the time. OK maybe you can make 500,000 out of it, but how many time you'll have to rebuild the truck to get it there is the question. Check out this thread from another forum:
http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/6-...le-update.html

He's getting close to 500,000, but has had to replace/repair a lot of things to get where he is. He was running stock for quite a while, but did the deletes eventually.

I would think, it would make more sense to go with a larger class truck for a 5 car. You'll be saving money in the long run with fewer repairs and you have a much better safety margin.

Jeff.

The engine is the very least of your concerns if thats what your trying to improve. Cab/chassis i.e. 3500/4500/5500 are purpose built trucks and although they look kinda the same (especially 3500 c/c) they are very different including drivetrain and suspension. Do you have a 3500 cab n chassis or a 3500 pick up truck? What gearing does the truck have?
