Question Puff of smoke

Good afternoon everyone....

I had a strange occurrence this weekend on my truck. It has happened once before, but I didn't think much of it.

I had a puff of smoke come out of the passenger side of truck at the front of the truck under the air cleaner and came out the wheel well. (I'm thinking Intercooler????)

The first time it happened (about a year ago) it sounded like the a/c compressor clutch engaged just before the smoke.... This time now additional noise or smell, just a small puff of smoke....

both times at idle... I happen to be standing outside the truck both times, so who knows if it happens while im driving or sitting inside (I'm sure it does)

Has anyone experienced this or know what this could be?

Sorry for being so vague on this, but I'm stumped...

The AC compressor has a high pressure relief valve mounted on it, I'm guessing there is a problem with your AC and the "smoke" you see is actually Freon and refrigeration oil being released, go have it checked. Do you have anything up against the AC condenser, that could cause high head pressures especially at idle.

when I checked it there was nothing touching the compressor.

A/C seems to be working fine, but it could be getting low on Freon.... summer hasn't really started yet...

Thanks for the idea to check it out...

Not the compressor..the condenser, the AC "rad" up front. Like do you have a bug screen, is the condenser clogged with bugs? If you think it's getting low on Freon then there IS a leak and most likely from the high pressure relief valve on the compressor judging from what you have said. But what is causing the high pressure?

It may be getting clogged, I haven't washed it out in a while..... I will try that this weekend and see if I still notice it.
