Spare tire? Correct size?

Spare tire? Correct size?
I've got a 2500 tradesman. The factory wheels including the spare are 245/70/17. I just got a set of factory aluminum wheels and tires taken off a new truck. They are 275/70/18. The dealership tells me that all Rams will have a 17" steel wheel for a spare and a different height tire to match the circumference of the factory premium wheels. I don't live close to the dealership. So whoever has 275/70/18 on there truck from the factory what tire does your spare have mounted on a 17" wheel? Thanks.

The outside diameter for a spare is all that counts when you need it. it will however keep you from using the best 18 as a spare on a 17. Keep in mind too the lug nuts. they may be different for the new wheels and you may need to keep a handfull for use with the steel spare. wrench size may be different too

Went to the dealership today and looked under some new trucks. One with the factory aluminum 275-70-18 had a steel wheel with a matching tire. One with the black 20" alloys had a 18" steel wheel with a 275-70-18 tire. Hows that going to workout?

Its just the outside circumference that matters. Rim size means nothing. It can be a 13 inch rim and still work as long as the circumference is the same.
