Prospective Ram 3500 owner
Hello all
About this time next year I’ll have the funds needed to buy my next truck. The truck I’ve owned for close to 20 years is a 92 F250 non turbo automatic. She’s served me well but I gotta tell you I’m tired of 105hp (hi altitude), glow plugs, and automatic transmission. I only haul a 10-foot cabover.
My selected replacement is the 2012 Ram ST, 3500 dually, manual trans with crew cab. Wish they had the supercab like Ford but maybe the longer wheelbase will work better with the dually.
Anyhow I know people don’t by duallies for the MPG’s but could there be things I do to increase mileage? I’m not necessarily looking for HP gains cause I sure going to 300 from 100 will seem like a quantum leap. I also plan to add a bigger fuel tank for extended range.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated
Billy Mike
I should also mention the county I live in does dyno smog test diesel annually..

Delete it and get a tuner. For a Smarty Jr and delete pipe you would be in the $800 range. If you wanted H&S your more like $1300.
You'll see about 2-3 MPG increase in MPG. More if you are a light foot, less if your a masher.

Much appreciated.
I got to do more research on this delete stuff. I'm a motorcyclist primarily and the truck has always been my bad weather vehicle. Case in point my Ford only has 170K miles!
Would doing these mods become an issue during the annual emissions testing?
A friend of mine at work bought a 2011 this year and he gets about 17 unloaded on the highway, the motor has now got about 24K. My uncle, whose owned 6 Cummins trucks, says it wont be broken in till around 50K and thats when MPG's should begin to improve some
