oil change message

I get 3000 miles on my truck and the message reminder lights up. Is this correct? I thought my 2011 dodge diesel would get better but it did not.

Depending on the kind of driving you do that may even be too long. My son was getting them at 2500KM not miles, the dealer told him to ignore them and just change at the regular interval. On changing the oil it was like water and way over full even though he was using synthetic. After deleting his oil stays clean and he changes at 15,000km I do mine yearly whether it need it or not.

That's what mine does too (non-deleted mind you). It's normal, even though the manual says the oil change interval is more than 2X that. The computer supposedly monitors engine usage and comes up with a number. Get's old fast, as oil changes aren't exactly cheap- even doing them yourself. But yes, oil in a non-deleted truck can really look black and runny at 3,000 miles.

Our 2012 did that on the first change. Have run it more than that on heading toward change number 2 and no light yet. At least the Ram system appears "smarter" than my 2011 Ford which is purely a mileage based system, i.e. every 7,500 miles.

Again I think it depends on the type of driving you do. Short trips and not a lot of hard work will lend to more regens and fuel dilution.

I travel 11 miles one way to work all week. Not much long distance. A couple trips aprox. 85 mies.
When I pulled my fifth wheel I got around 4600 miles on an oil change.
I do not mind the 3000 mile oil change just as long I am not wasting my money and oil.

The reminder has come on right around 10,000 kms (6000 miles) for each of my 1st 3 oil changes. I have pulled heavy a fair bit of the time. Otherwise it has been a daily driver. I've been planning on getting an oil sample analysis but haven't got around to it yet.
