Oil Change Indicator
Oil Change Indicator
On the oil change before the last one, I went 5,000 miles and the oil change indicator never sounded. Had it changed because of mileage. At that time, there would have been no reset on it required. Now, around 1500 miles after the most recent change, it sounded. What gives, and how do these things decide when the oil should be changed? Most miles (probably 75%) have been towing 14k fiver. Mostly idles while I'm getting the camper level and unhooked. Need that idle time for cool-down anyway.
Thanks,
Bob

When I owned my 2007.5 RAM 3500 MegaCab, I always went through the re-set procedure even if I changed the oil prior to the system indicating I needed to do so.
It's designed to be re-set every oil change.

If it's making oil you got bigger problems.
Just reset it when you change it. No big deal.
The oil life is calculated off of run time, engine load, idle hours etc.
I seriously doubt you could idle it enough to wet stack and make oil. Not cold enough and you'd plug the dpf.
To be honest with you, I don't think I've even pulled the dipstick on my 07 for 5 years. About every 8kmi I dump the oil/filter, fill er up again and reset the trip miles. Poor mans oil life indicator, lol!
