Manual Or HO

Im going to get a 3500 drw for towing a 15k lb trailer. I want the manual but also want the HO motor.
What do you guys think? Should I suck it up and get the auto box?

I'm pulling a 15,000 lb fifth wheel and have no regrets about choosing the auto. Also, the HO engine is very nice.

Same here, I don't tow quite as heavy, but I love the new 68rfe. Coming from heavily built 48RE I was worried and skeptical, but I love it. The HO engine is very nice too.

Get the auto. If the new auto would have been available in '07 when I got my 5.9 I would have gotten it. After dumping $4500 into my 47re on the '98.5,I wasn't about to repeat the financial misery on a 48re. The 6-speed auto seems sturdy.

Looks like the auto is the only one that can pull a 15k trailer.

I pull my trailer in my signature loaded to 34K gross almost daily. I will never own a auto again. Manual is the only way to go if you tow on a regular basis. This is my preference, I drove a couple of the new auto's with the manual overide and it's still not as good a a manual trans.

Am I missing something. The truck is not rated for more then 22k in the manual.

You pulling DOT?

Trust me it may be rated low but can handle it.

Small load, right at 20k

Ahhhh, that one makes my Kubota look little and cute. lol
Owning an 07 500hp 6spd manual and a 650hp 03 suncoast 48RE, I'm actually comfortable with this 2012 stock set up. The tranny shifts hard/firm and stock power is crazy for stock. I dont tow real heavy, but I do tow quite often.

Legal is such a strong word...

Honestly that load I had was legal. Its farm used so no CDL needed, and I wasnt towing 26k+1.

The autos are rated for more, but for what reason, I have never understood.

Congrats on the new truck, youll love it, either way.

It is easy to turn a manual into an HO.
It is hard to turn an HO into a manual.

Pulled it just fine. DOT doesn't care what Dodge says it will do, all they care about is what my CAB Card say's I'm apportioned for (36K LBS).
