Gonna buy a new truck and need info please!
So, i have used the search feature extensively and found a lot of usefull info. I'd really appreciate any further info.
So, im looking at new trucks and Im digging the 4th gen 2010 and up. I currently own 2002 2500 5speed with lots of mods for performance. My next truck I plan on trying to leave pretty much stock. What do I need to know about automatic transmissions in the new cummins? I know virtually nothing about DEF, is it good, bad better than 3rd generation trucks? I wont be working the truck very hard and mostly be a daily driver. MPG is not huge concern but higher is always better right.
Pretty much looking for a truck that is comfy, lots of power(stock), reliable and not have to worry about lift pumps...Vp 44 failures... like i did with my 2nd gen

Here is a link to another source for the information that you are looking for. Turbo Diesel Register - TDR Roundtable - The Perfect Collection
This provides information on the 6.7L engine and the exhaust brake that is on the engine along with the Ram Automatic Transmission.
If you are planning on buying new I would buy a 2013.5 and newer truck with the 6 sped AISIN transmission. This will provide 385HP and over 865 lb-ft of torque more than enough for any towing needs. You now will have the best of everything a medium duty engine and transmission along with a will riding truck (air ride package).

I went from an 02 6 speed with all sorts of goodies (should have had a set of twins on it) and stepped into a 2010 6 spd auto. The 2010 felt amazing! It didnt have the all-out ridiculous power the 02 had up on top, but the 6.7 has a ton of power down low, which is great for trailering or daily driving. I didnt care for the EGR but its a necessary evil. There are options to delete it. I traded the 2010 with 82k miles for a 2013 with 5k miles and saved 2.25% on the loan (credit got better and went through credit union) but had it not been for saving money I would have kept my 10 for a long time. If buying new definitely get aisin trans. If you are staying with stock power the 68rfe is fine, just make sure you keep up with maintenance.
