So, I go out to start the truck this morning. Key fob wouldn't unlock door (that has happened before) so I unlock the door with the key, ready to put the fob in the ignition and start the truck to kill the alarm. The alarm didn't sound. Turns out batteries are dead. These batteries were replaced in January of this year, so they aren't even a year old yet. Had no issues up until today. Belt is good, no indication of bad alternator, etc. Batteries are showing 5.3 volts with a voltmeter. What the heck?!? What could cause that kind of drain on the batteries in 3 days time? Truck was last run this past Sunday.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

UPDATE: After putting on a battery charger all day at 2 amps, still wouldn't turn over but tried. Increased the charger output to 6 amps for a couple of hours and she started right up. I let her idle on high idle for about 10 minutes while rechecking the voltage at the battery while running. Showed 13.69 volts at each battery. I will try to start again tomorrow morning and if it starts I'll go to O'Reilly where I bought the batteries and have them load tested, along with testing the alternator output (although there has never been any indication of the alternator dying). I'll post back with my findings.

Regards,

Bob

UPDATE 2: Started right up this morning without issues. Drove it to O'Reilly's and has the batteries load-tested to be good. Started back up at O'Reilly's, drove about 10 miles to Lowe's, started right back up there - no problems since. I'm completely puzzled as to what happened to begin with...

Regards,

Bob
