Block Heater

Weird stuff going on, with global warming and all. It got cold in South Texas.

I tried to plug in our 2014 dually and found out that it did not come equipped with a block heater cord. (Thanks for being cheap Dodge) So a quick order from Geno's and about $20 and a few days later I install it.

Kind of curious exactly what kind of temps I should see when I start up the truck. IIRC the oil temp was like 104. Sound correct? I assume it won't heat the coolant at all???

The block heater is mounted in a coolant passage and heats the coolant directly. I've never actually checked coolant or oil temps during block heater use, but I know that it's common for the block to be warm to the touch close to the heater, sometimes you can feel warmth at the rad hoses as well.

Typically, I'll just plug in the heater for an hour or two before I start the truck; that's enough time to allow it to start easier, while four hours is enough time to make it as warm as the block heater can get it. Any more time is just adding to my power bill without any benefit.

I'm a dumbass. The plug is a gfci and was tripped. Duh

Not really worried about electric bill. I full time in an RV. Electric is included.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I really do appreciate it.
