4.10 stuttering under load

Here is the history: 2012 high output Longhorn mega cab 3500. 14,000 lb 5th.wheel. twice today on a hill after a stop, the transmission will stutter while trying to move. Thought at first that the limited slip was trying to engage. Both events happened about 6 hours between occurrences. Had it happen once about two weeks ago when booked up in the.driveway to pull the hill to pull out. Temp on tranny was under 195 today. Fluid smalles and.looks good. Less than 7000 miles on truck.

I've heard from more than one that sometimes this is normal behavior for the weak clutches in a 68FRE tranny. It is also reported that excessive heat is a byproduct as well.

My father-in-law says his 2010 does the same thing every once in a while. Dealer says they cant find a problem. I wonder if it has anything to do with the carrier bearing on the drive shaft? That long of a drive shaft with so much torque. I noticed when I shift from reverse to drive it bounce's a little. I just bought a 2012 last night and will be towing about 14,000 lb up the mountains next weekend. We will see how it does!

Yes, let me know if it duplicates. Going to take mine into dealer to be checked, maybe get a fluid and filter change for free on the tranny. In checking it all over when i first got it, i never checked the diff fluid, which will get done today. Had an allison 3.73 which never showed this symptom. That is the reason i chose the 4.10 for the stump pulling power.

Well, just got back from our trip, I did notice it a few times, that when I would take off a little harder with the load it would shudder a bit. I even felt it once when I was empty rolling to a stop and then taking off before completely stoping. But man this thing has power! I could not believe the way it towed in the mountains.

I also get the shudder pulling my 5er under hard acceleration, wondered myself if it was something tranny related or not. I can make it shudder a bit with my 315's unloaded under a hard acceleration, or at least it feels like a shudder to me

Mine is under light acceleration with load, almost as if the torque converter is stalling out, or like that. Havent got back to the dealer, other than a free oil change here yesterday ( second oil change in 7500 miles) which the oil lofe management notified me of yesterday. But i will follow up on it.
