I'm considering the purchase of a 2011 or 2012 Ram 2500 4WD Crew Cab Long box with the Cummins engine and wonder if anyone can provide me with some insight at to your experiences with fuel consumption with a similar truck - mostly hwy driving.

I drive a 2012 3500srw quad cab long box 4x4 and usually see 700km to a tank of fuel.!

Thanks to both of you for the info. Seems to me that the mileage is somewhat less than from my old 98 second gen 5.9L quad cab in which I get about 900 to 1000 km per tank at 12.6L/100km (22.4 mi/ImpGal or 18.6 mi/USGal ). Perhaps this has to do with the transmission type, gear and axle ratios. I've also reviewed lots of forums on these newer 4th gen vehicles and find that perhaps I'm better off with the truck that I know than the one I don't. It seems that the environmental/emission control add-ons are taking their tolls on fuel efficiency. Makes a lot of sense, burn more fuel but get some improved results at the end of the tail pipe. In the long run, maybe it's a trade-off. Thanks for your input hovisimo and 03 ant a hemi.

Ditto, unplugging the EGR connector yields as much as 20 mpg highway, but you have to plug it back in for city or the dpf plugs-up.

My 2012 gets around 700km to a tank (Not deleted yet)

Thank for the additional input from SOhappy and shlen. It does show me that the 5.9L is superior to the 6.7L engine. Either that, or the difference between them is my 3.55 rear axle ratio compared to a 3.73 for the later models. Perhaps the change is related to towing capacity and I might be better to wait another year for a used 2013 with Ram's change in transmission and to a 3.42 axle ratio. I hate to purchase new due to the big price loss as soon as it is driven off the lot. Thanks to all of you.

Yeah, the 2013's mpgs are right back up there where the 2003-2004 5.9s were. Took 10 years, but it appears they finally did it.

I typically get from 900-1100km's a tank in my 10 during the summer, depending on how I drive. Mine's deleted. Fuel mileage ranges from 16-18mpg on hiway and 12-14 towing/city driving.

My older truck gets slightly better fuel mileage than the new truck. Probably due to all the extra weight from all the luxury junk.

Winter sure beat the heck out your fuel mileage. Typically I idle my trucks lots in the winter and due to running the #1 winter fuel.

Thanks Mike. Winter always beats the hell out of mileage - the nature of the beast. 900-1100 km per tankful sound very good and I guess the delete is responsible for some of this. I'm currently looking at a 2012 2500 CCLB 6sp Auto with 3.73 axle and am considering purchase. Hope it is a reasonable choice.

It has been an awesome truck so far. I have 107000km's on mine and its has worked perfect. I'm sure you enjoy. It took me awhile to get on board with the CR and 6.7L

The dealer sure wants me to get into a seat of a 13 or 14 ctd. I can't even think about running urea system. The exhaust is worth more than $10k on the truck.

The 6.7L dry dpf systems brand new are around $5k. A funny fact is that my original exhaust system is still like brand new

I also have 3.73 gears and ran a 18in 295/65's.

Thanks again Mike. On that note, I'll purchase the unit. It's got 22,000 km on it with factory warranty left. I'm looking forward to get into the driver's seat.
