Max speed Ram 4500

What is the max speed a 2008 4500 Ram w/6.7 will do. I have one and will not go over 75 mph. Is the pcm controlling max speed? Can I set it to higher speed?

Yes, the max speed is 75. Why would you want to go any faster than that in a 4500/5500 truck!

Keep it at 65 max and save on fuel.

I couldn't imagin driving my 4500 at or over 75mph. I'd be white-knuckling it going that fast.

These things weren't built for speed.

I'm sure one of the new programmers can disable the PCM govenor set at 75.

Max Speed

Thanks Fatcat I thought that was the case. I checked with scanner and can enable or disable max speed. Does not give what max speed is though. The Sprinter will give a numeric speed 82 max but cannot set higher then that with scanner.

I agree. I wouldnt want to be on most roads here doing more than 55 in my 5500. If I was pulling on interstate now I would want it to do atleast 80 on a good road.

set that way i beleive due to the speed ratings of the tires on the trucks from the factrory, going faster than the rated speed can be quite disassterous.

hey i did some checking and the 4500 and 5500 aregoverned out at 75mph because of a new law! not because of the way the truck is built! my 5500 tops out at 75 and i hate it! if you need to pass on highway your screwed!

I think the speed limit is a bummer no one wants to race the 4500/5500 but it would ne nice to have a higher top end to pass. I have a 4.88 with auto (the only rear end ratio for the 5500 with 6 spd auto trans) so at 100 km/h or 60 mph the RPM's are at about 2050~2100. For sure the Fuel milage is better if you keep the truck at 100 km/h or 60 mph!! go up in speed and watch you mileage drop!! but again to pass it would be nice to have speed limit removed!!! And for hot-shot service that I would like to do part time in winter I would like it for the "Canadian Auto bahn" (From Edmonton to Calgary) as most people who drive this road know... Cummins610 will agree!!!

I've driven an f550 and it max's out around 82 or so. Thought it was the gearing in the rear that was limiting it. Our new class 8 trucks for the company are governed at 70 or something. They won't get out of there own way with a load on them. Not saying I'm driving 82 everywhere but on the highway if you have to get out of the way you have it to get out of the way quickly. I drove the class 8 and passed someone going down hill, they decided to speed up to 70 and there I was stuck next to them and could'nt go faster, so slow down get in behind them and when we hit level ground they slowed to 65 or whatever....then I made another attempt to pass. Good way to clog up the I-state. Don't think they should be able to do it to my own personal bought off the lot truck though, a little to intrusive for me, especially when they're selling the Veyron thats a 250mph car with a key to get you there.

It is governed because of the tires.
