I have a friend that is a fulltimer, with a 2008 4500 that continually has problems when filling the fuel tank. It spits and burps not allowing him to get it full. I looked at all the TSB's and searched this forum without any luck. One TSB talked about debris getting into the vent causing poor performance. Nothing specific when fueling.

Has anyone else had this problem? Fixes?

The only problem I have filling mine is that "Green-Armed-Bandit" keeps robbing me. I fill from the back though a 90 as well..

Do a search for "vent mod"

Try putting a "Tank" in front of the vent mod, there is several good threads on the subject. What kind of bed does he have on it? the only thing I can think of is they pinched the fill or vent hose on the install.

 

Can't find any threads of the Vent Mod. He has a hauler bed on the truck.

I just told him to get under the truck and look. He's not very mechanically inclined and has a bad back.

If you know where those threads are, I would appriciate a link.

The C&C came with a bag that had a couple of hoses for fill options, this is the one(stock 90) that I used:



Note:
The vent hose was longer than needed so it could be cut to size on final install.(this might be where the problem is)
The wire is the fill spout ground wire.

Thanks for the info. That was a good slide show if for nothing else on how to build a bed. The one picture of tank top and its connections, may or may not help my friend. I sent the thread to him last night. Have not heard anything yet.

Ill bet you a quarter they did not trim the vent hose or they crimped it during the installation.

The owner of the 2008 4500 looked at the fill hose and indicated it had a dip in it to clear the bed. I told him that was most likely why he's having problems fueling.

He has not replied any further to date. Will check it out and see what going on.

I got an email from the owner of the 4500. Here is want he had to say;

"I've started putting two orange levelers under the side of truck accepting diesel. This makes some elevation down to the fuel tank. Last fill up guy next to me said they carry a two by six on there flat bed to help when filling there trucks. Had a guy who owned tow trucks say the same thing. Another guy said they fed gas into another hose (farm trucks) which allowed more drop into tank. Sounds like this is a common issue with flatbed or western hauler bodies. It must be an issue with elevation or not having enough drop between entry point and fuel tank. It feels strange putting blocks under tires and sometimes that doesn't seem to help."

He's currently headed to Rapid City after visiting Devil's Tower.

Don't know if he plans on doing anything else with the vent or fill hose.

It must be the western bed as mine fills with no problem even with the big pumps at the RV stalls.
