WOW!! EGT Question
I am on vacation in Moab to do some Jeeping. On my way here I was towing a 20' car hauler with my Jeep on it. A few times while going through Colorado I encountered some very steep inclines for a long time. At some times my EGT's got over 1500, my engine temp was around 220, trans. temp 220, and boost 20 and kept a speed of about 40 mph. Are these numbers normal for these conditions? My buddy has the same truck as me except he has a DRW but he was hauling a much longer goose neck trailer with 2 Jeeps on it. His truck is bone stock. So, in theory his truck numbers should be the same or worse than mine but he would not know because he does not have anything that tells him these things. Are these numbers normal or is there something wrong with my truck?

The numbers sound a bit high, but I'm a noob with these things. If you went over wolf creek pass like I did a few weeks back I know what you're dealing with.
Have fun wheelin. I'm going to try and make it up there in September or October.

looking at your signature I'd say you've got the extra fuel with the edge but no other mods to cool things off. Get yourself a water/meth kit and just don't use any meth, waters best.

I live in Colorado, and I know exactly what you are talking about. Going up some of the larger hills I have to keep backing out of my truck to keep my EGT's where they should be (1300 - 1350). I just got the Smarty Jr. so I am hopeing that it will lower the EGT's. I have not towed in the mountains with it yet though.

I've ran those same hills with a 20 ft enclosed myself. I had the Juice on 3 and it read 1300-1350 same as my pilar mounted Isso gauges. 1500 is getting a little warm. Keeping the T/C locked will help lower the egts. Also your tranny will run a little warmer with the Goerends T/C. May want to check into a deaper pan.

I tried the zero (stock) setting and the 2 (tow) setting and it did not seem to make a big difference. I also tried the tow/haul switch and it did not really make a difference.

Yes thats hot.. Everything I have heard the Egde makes you run hotter. 1400* is pretty easy stock when towing...
Your boost seems low, what were your rpms?
Personally I don't really like going above 1250* continuous, and 1350* as an absolute max... That being said the stock motor gets much hotter than that, but that doesn't mean I like it.
If you plan to tow a lot I would look at a Smarty and analog gauges over the Edge.

You can clamp of the wastegate before running the hills. I've done this many times and it will definetly cool things down.

To clamp the wastegate you'll need to remove your intake tube to access the rubber tube that leads from the wastegate to the electronic acuator. Just clamp the hose with a pair of wise grips and your done. Of course letting out of the throttle will lower egts but who wants to do that!!!
