Winch kills Cummins
If I leave the engine running and try to use my winch, it immediately kills the engine and the engine light comes on. Do I have it wired wrong? Please, any help would be appreciated.

how can you have it wired wrong it only has 2 wire right just the pos and neg? unless it is in the winch contacter i am thinking that the alternator is bad along with the truck batteries
What brand of winch is it you might to have to call the manufactor of the winch and ask them if you can't get it figured out

Where are you getting the power to run your winch remote control?
Do a load test on the batteries and clean the terminals. You might be pulling so much power from a weak system, that the low voltage kills the engine.

What Raspy said. What's the condition of your batteries? Also did you tap the driver or passenger side battery? I'm inclined in saying to use the passenger side battery for powering the winch, since it's first in line charging from the alternator.

Ground on the frame or on the battery? Both connections are currently on the driver side battery. Batteries are new and the alternator is good.

Switch the cables over to the passenger battery if possible.
OR take it to the dealer and have the high idle feature enabled. That will keep the alternator charging output higher and reduce the voltage drop.

Is it dying immediately or only after and extended hard pull? If the truck runs and starts fine it should have enough power to run the winch with no load on the cable easily.
Does the winch run ok with the motor off?
If not then check the lines going from the solenoid box to the winch motor, there are probably three of them and they are probably hooked up wrong and the winch is dead shorting.

Is the winch new or used? what amps is it rated at? Check the current draw with induction amp meter does it go over the amp draw max rating? what is battery voltage when you use winch? Winch motor may be shorted internally pulling down battery volts, if PCM sees under 10 volts it will will shut down. Make sure all grounds are clean and tight.
