Who has experience with BFG Mud Terrain tires?
I am considering some BFG Mud Terrains. I like the aggresive tread pattern and I hear mixed opinions no there noise and tread life.
Today a coworker of mine told me that the Mud Terrains wear quickly and make herrendious noise.
Another coworker has them on his Superduty and says that they are a little noiser than BFG All Terrains and his are half way worn at 25k miles. He also says to rotate them whem they start to get noisier.
I plan to drive this truck every day to work (30 mi each way) and would be happy if I got 40K miles out of them.
I really like the looks over the All terrians. Probably gonna go with a 35 incher.
Thanks

Been having the BFG M/T for about 7000 miles now, no complaints, not much wear, I find the noise is much less than super swampers, and other MT's can't tell you how they will sound at 50% worn, couple of friends of mine have them with more milage on Fords and Chevys, and they're not that loud. wear on them seems to be just as good as any MT tire. I drive a mixed bag of roads, had to use them in serious mud before and they do pull the load. I run 45 psi all around and the ride is good. I think you will be happy with them, just remember they are a Mud tire and they will make some noise and probably won't get the milage that a AT or a radial will.
I would highly recommend them. A couple buddies and I repeadily get 50,000 + out of a set. I had them on my last truck and they were the first thing to go on my new one. They only howl when you don't rotate. Plus they look better. Those all terrains collect twice as many rocks as a mt.

I’ve had both the AT’s and the MT’s on all my trucks since the early 80’s. I think the AT’s are what you need based on what you’ve said, but the MT’s do look better.
The MT’s will last almost as long as the AT’s. I’d say you’ll get 10 to 15 percent more mileage out of the AT’s (depending on your driving habits). The down side is rotating them frequently only makes them last longer. They will and do get louder with age. I promise you that. With that being said buy the MT’s they look way better.

I can't attest to tire life as I only have about 5,000kms on them but they are alot quieter than super swampers, but a little louder than A/T's. I have to say that I am impressed with both their onroad handling wet and dry, as well as easily holding their own in the muck.
I have put about 5000 on mine and they appear to be wearing fine. I do not expect to get 50,000 thousand though, some where around 30,000 I would say. The noise level will be relative to what you are accustomed to. They make noise but are not as bad as a really aggressive tire. Let's put it this way I have had tires that mi wife did nothing but complain about the noise but these she has said nothing about. I have noticed that the noise level changes depending on the road surface, asphault/concrete. Hope this helps.
I have run AT and MT BFG's for a long time...
Both will last a long time. I have put 65k on a pair of 315 AT and 50k on 35 MT. There really is no other real AT tire that is as quiet as the BFG's. So the MT's are noticably louder, but still more quiet than any other mudder. I have no complaints with the MT's on my current truck.
The best question is which one is better for you...
AT pros: quiet, great on ice, wet pavement, dry dirt, rocks, sand
AT cons: suck in deep snow/slush/mud and throw rocks like crazy
MT pros: great in deep snow/slush/mud/dirt/sand/rocks....
ok on ice on heavy rigs
MT cons: Not as quiet...

Your co-worker is a fruit! The BFG M/T's are a very good mud tire that does not sound like a mud tire on the road. hey are among the quietest tire going. Wear wise I would rate them a 9-10, most people that keep up with the air pressure and rotations get 50,000 + miles. I have them presently on two trucks and love them to death.
Something else to consider, Toyo make a lot of heavy duty truck tires. I saw a recent truck magazine where their MT tire is now available in size 35, maybe others sizes also. The article stated they have a heavy load rating, maybe E, and they were supposed to be fairly quiet for a MT tire. I don't know anyone who has these, but something to check out. Other than the BFGs, most of the other MT tires are only C rated tires.
Having run nothing but bfg all terrains and mud terrains for the last 25 years and beating on them severely, I think cquestad hit it perfectly on the head with his pros and cons. I completely agree you must properly rotate these tires for maximum mileage, especially since our trucks are alot heavier than the average gasser these tires where probably intended for.
My only complaint about the BFG M/Ts is the load rating.....too low if you haul anything. The Super Swamper TrXus M/Ts have a E load range rating and are fairly quiet......my buddy is running them on his SuperDukie!
BFG MT's and AT's load seam almost underrated. I have never had a single problem loading them as heavy as my truck could hold...I had 4+ yards of road mix in the back of my old truck with 315's...tipped the scale at the dump at 17k.
