Where's the power???

I have the 05 with 325HP & 610 torq; one woud think with this much power the tires would ignite from a 30 mph roll. I know the response is different than a gas engine, but with these numbers, it should be faster off the line. I have not tried a full throttle launch, but close to it. I'm not real impressed. I've seen a Duramax dually smoke the tires off the line. comments?

The Durapad probably had a box on it. I've never seen or been in any GM diesel stock that would smoke the tires off the line.

You don't like it, sell it, but you aren't gonna get any more power out of any other brand.

Heres your answer polston. The newer cummins is computer restricted on takeoff if theres no load holding it back. If it wasnt it would lite up and probably jump up and down and break something, ( u joint, rear end gears etc.) Put your trailer behind there and get on it and it'll give you all shes got. Now you can overide the restriction while emty by holding brakes on tight floor the throttle count to 3, the count down spooles up the turbo charger , and pop the brake off. That should lite her up. Holding the brake fooles the computer into thinking theres a unmovable load. My neighbor does this every time someone new comes to see his new 2005 cummins. You couldnt pay me to do that were I so lucky as to have a beautiful new 2005. At present I run a 1998.5 3500 dually with 102000 mi with all original brakes and and 4 original tires on rear yet. I pull a 35 ft Holiday Rambler trailer, but I dont spinn my tires.HAHA

I'm sure you would like a little more informing and understanding answer so lets see if this helps, both the Ford with the 5 speed auto and the Chevy/GMC with the Allison have a much lower first gear and a little tighter torque converter. Several years ago when I purchased an out of state (illegal--live in California)2003 3500 dually with the HO and one of the first 48RE trans. I discovered how much of a dog these new motors are out of the hole in stock trim. This is a combo of a much higher gear and the way the new engines don't fuel up real well until the boost tells the computor to fuel the engine and then the POS stock converter doesn't do a real good job either--you think Dodge would have a clue by now but I guess we all know better. I test drove a one ton Duramax last weekend while trying to make up my mind about which truck to buy before the tax incentives went away on the 31'st and I know for a fact it would light the tires up from a total stop and if you power braked it you had to back out of it or it would just burn the tires off--and before you'all start the flame burner I just got back from Dave Smith in Idaho from picking up my new 3500 SRW 325/610 !!!6 SPEED!!! and that's exactly why you don't see a 48RE in my sig!!

hold the brake in and build some boost. rev to 1600 RPM and let off the brake at WOT. stock i would get 50 feet of tire spin. i can now do it at idle and get 100ft of spin with the edge.

Our dmax won't light 'em up unless you powerbrake it. All bets are off then.

Thanks all; I don't want to melt the tires, just curious about the "Off the Line" power. I have not pulled a load yet, but I'm sure it'll do the job there; my 2001 does.

Have you ever seen a MaxiPad or PowerJoke "ignite" the tires from a 30 mph roll ?

i haven't! my 600 (now a 610) will ignite both tires at any speed so long as it's raining.

this engine no doubt has the potential to break loose at 30mph on dry pavement, however that's a good way to lose a rear end or ujoint.

my 555 will do that once the engine gets into the torque rise and boost is building... up to 5th no problem. it will do it in 6th too if i am booting along on the highway building boost...

Tried it for the first time yesterday, powerbraked to about 1800 rpm, when I let off the brake the 315's broke loose immediately, 2 big black stripes about 50 feet long right in front of the house. It would have kept spinning them but I let off, I had no idea those tires would make so much squealing noise. My son thought the smoke coming off the tires was about the coolest thing he ever saw, I had to agree. This is on a bone stock 325/600 with TSB 18-037-04 done.
