Where to get Oil Filter

Where can I get a Fleetguard filter? I rather not get ripped off by the Dodge dealer. I am in the Sterling VA area & would need to change my oil this week!

Also, what is the part number for this filter?

Check out your local Cummins shop. They stock them and are much cheaper than the DC gang!

I get mine from a local freightliner shop for $6.28 (fleetguard). U could also try other big rig shops, they might be able to get them also. Hope that helps

Would a Napa parts store have them? Seems like Napa has a cross reference filter for everything.

When buying the filters from Cummins be sure to get the fluted type, at least if you use one of the end cap filter wrenches. As I was installing one of mine I noticed that wasn't fluted, sighed, and then finished tightening it.

Make sure next time you get a Fleetguard LF16035, its the Stratapore and I haven't ever seen one that wasn't fluted on the bottom. -Steve

NO - NAPA will not carry a Fleetguard. The cross reference means nothing - it wont be a Fleetugard and will NOT be an approved filter.

OK, I'm not trying to argue here, but to say that any other filter than a Fleetguard is not an approved filter? I did a quick search on Fram and Wix sites and they both have a cross reference filter.

I am sure truckers will buy a filter wherever they are when the time comes, and not worry if it's not a Fleetguard.

In the heavy equipment world, not many companies buy Cat filters all the time for their equipment.

I can see the need to be careful in the grade/weight of oil used to maintain a warranty. But a specific filter is something I've never seen in print.

Am I completely wrong?

There are other filters that you can use, but the preferred filters are Fleetguard due to the excellent quality, low price, and wide availability. Here is a link to some of the approved filters for the Cummins engine:

http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2001/09-004-01.htm

NEVER use a FRAM filter on a Cummins engine. If the engine fails while running a FRAM filter, your warranty will almost always be voided because they are not approved filters.
