wheels and tires
Bought my new 05 2500 with a CDT a month ago in AK and I finally get to see and drive it on Friday. I'm TAD in AK all summer then I'm driving it back to CT for my last year school/training. I have a question regarding wheels and tires. I want to put 315 70/R17 BFG All Terrains on my truck after my 5000 mile road trip but I've been told they won't fit on stock wheels and there can be some intense rubbing w/o any height mods. Is there anything i can do (i.e. leveling kit) w/o lifting (I don't want to lift it yet) and still run the 315's? And...will the 315 all terrains fit on the stock wheels?
Thanks

You can run them on stock wheels. Some Ram owners have minor rubbing on the control arms at full lock while others have no rubbing at all, depends on the truck. Get them, you'll love them.
You can run them on stock wheels but if you turn hard they rub unless you use a leveling kit or a lift.I had 315s but only got 12000 miles out of them. I put 305 on and they are a good wintertire now i am running 295 nittos far better tire than the bfgs.
I have the BFG 315s on stock 17x8 rims. I do have a leveling kit. No rubbing period. I have 20,000 miles and a very little cupping wear. I just added a 5th 315 with about the same mileage on a stock rim and will start a 5 tire rotation. I expect to get 60k at least out of the tires and maybe more. Thats with 400+ rwhp and a lot of burn outs. I have ran BFG All/Terrain tires on all my 4x4 vehicles for the last 20+ years. A good compromise for city/highway driving and moderate off roading.
I will add that I dont do any heavy towing. If I did a lot of heavy towing or towed often I would use a smaller E rated tire.

I rent most of my stuff from cat.So my buddy gives me a discount so thats why there is a cat license plate. As far as getting 60,000 miles out bfgs i dont see how i rotate every 3,000 miles when i change the oil and they were slick after 12,000 but they wore even. The nittos get alot better traction and they ride smooth.
Only 12,000 miles?
budsowner,
Man your driving conditions must be pretty tough on tires. If I got under 50k out of a set I would be unhappy.
This is mine with about 1,000 miles.
This is mine with about 18,000 miles.

I have them on stock rims with no lift. I get a tiny bit of rub at full lock but it's nothing to be concerned about. I have about 30,000 on mine with about 12-15,000 more miles left on them. I like them and they look great..........[IMG]

My driving conditions is mountains and i haul 1845 case skidsteer with tracks each track wieghs about 3000 pounds, backhoe and front bucket all the time. You are either going up a mountain or down when you leave my house. The tire shop were i buy my tires for this truck and 01 model quit selling bfgs because of the milage issue and the fact after they spin in wet grass then your stuck because they fill up.But that's just my thought and experience after owning 4 different sets and only 21,000 miles on this truck.I put 800 miles on the factory set of bfgs then i went with 315s 12000 on them then i bought a set of goodyear 305s they made the best look for the truck. But they are in the building tell winter hot weather and rough tires and factor in the turns they wont last.So that brings to were i am at with the nittos and i might say they get great traction and handle like a dream.Trust me i was upset only getting 12000 out of them i tried to get bfg to give me some money back but that never happened.
