Question Whats wrong with the 06's?

I am new to the DTR and to Dodge for that matter. I am looking at replacing my 2002 Ford SD Powerstroke of which I bought new and have taking excellent care of from day one, with a MegaCab CTD 6-speed. I have been reading about problems with the 06 on the DTR forums and was wondering how bad are they and what type of problems? Fuel milage also concerns me because I get fairly good milage with my Ford (18 mpg around town and 20-23 on the HWY).

Thanks for your replys,

Dave

Dave....My "06" has been great...most post on here are people with issues....Milage on mine is around 16ish town 20+hwy. My "03" was a tad better...same as your Ford #'s.....I bet the "06" Ford is down also.....MORE POWER on all the newer rigs....I like the way the new 48RE is configured...works good for towing....also is approved for exhaust brake...On the 6 speed some folks don't like the final ratio on 6th gear....RPM's higher than auto...milage down a bit from auto....but will deal with oversize tires well....good luck!

Thanks again for the reply. Does the employee pricing really end on Aug. 31st? Do you think Dodge will extend it?

If you think of how many thousands of these trucks have been sold, there is a very small percentage of people with problems. Those people start looking for answers. Some end up here which makes it look like there are "lots" of problems. Most people are not going to get on a board like this just to say "I have not had any problems with my truck."

I have not had ANY problems (knock on wood!!) with my 06 Mega Cab. I have just over 4500 miles on it and have not really towed anything heavy yet and I am getting 17mpg town and 19-20mpg highway. I will be doing some heavy towing very soon and this should help break the engine in better and hopefully increase the mileage a bit.

I have had virtually no problems with my truck as well. Had it in for 3 of the tsb's/recall stuff. I did throw a code, had it in for that too. I have been towing some heavy loads, goes down the road with all that's needed (and then some) to do the job. I am at 7K with no problems, and a great big smile.

Absolutely nothing! 15,000 miles to date and no problems here. I do hate the front drive shaft lube fitting though, a conventional zerk would make it so much easier.

No problems here, but only about 1500 miles on so far. I think people like to have something to gossip about. Harping on the guys with the new(er) trucks is like a sport around here.

Most of us are more than willing to pop in and admit when we encounter problems or have concerns, even if we are not asking for help (warranty work).

Guys who don't own an 06 are now experts because they heard from their brother-inlaw's friend who heard from a guy that used to work at the dealership that they 2006's are junk.

14,000 here, soon to be 15k after this weekend and absolutely no problems . That's me knocking on wood! I get great mileage too. No new truck is going to get the kind of mileage you are getting due to emissions and higher horsepower and torque. But I still get 19 running 75. I could possibly get 21 or so if I could slow down to 65.

I just noticed you have an 02 PSD so that would make it the 7.3L? Those motors get far better mileage than a newer 6.0. I have a friend who has a 7.3 and gets 22 or 23 running 80. 6.0s could never touch that even with a strong tail wind. Keep in mind that the 7.3s made very little power compared to the new common rail cummins.

I went from a 2001 7.3 PSD (275HP/525TQ) 6 speed to a new Dodge 3500 6 speed and am happy so far (3000 miles). One thing I miss is the locking hubs on the Ford that allowed 2WD Lo range operation for backing and spotting trailers on pavement….can’t do that in the Dodge.

My 7.3 got around 20 MPG on the highway empty, the 5.9 gets around 17.5 so far. The final OD ratio on the Dodge G56 tranny makes the engine spin at higher RPM than the ZF tranny on the Ford at the same road speed.

Like many other former Ford owners, I really liked my 7.3 but didn’t want to roll the dice on getting a 6.0 lemon.

My 06 is the second Cummins I have owned. I am a funny guy when it comes to vehicles. (my wife says I can't make my mind up) In 04 I couldn't wait to get a duramax. Drove it 7500 miles and traded for a dodge 04.5. Drove the dodge for 10,000 miles then traded for 05 ford.(boy was that a mistake). Drove the ford for 2500 miles and traded for 06 dodge. As you can see I have been "full" circle with these diesels. I have many friends with all these diesels and they all have there good and there bad points. In my oppinion, (for now) my 06 is by far the best truck out of all the ones I mentioned. Allthough all of my friends that own diesels are not converted over to dodge. Most have seen the lite and now own dodge and couldn't be happier. Don't forget one very important thing. The dodge cost around $4000 less than the other two. How could you go wrong with that.

'06 Envy

I've had decent luck with my '99 but I spotted a 2500,qc,longbox,6-speed,4wd,Big Horn at my local dealer. With employee pricing,msrp:$43,500,selling price: $34,500 approx. No bickering, nothing. Pretty killer deal. I just can't handle payments again. Enjoy those trucks guys!

whopping 2100 miles

and no problems at all. AC works great in the alabama heat.
If your thinking of getting one "git er done" before the new engine comes out as the 5.9 will be scarce to find on lots

I have about 5K miles on mine now...no problems except for weak front springs that I may have to upgrade, but other than that it's been perfect so far.
