I thought I had my new Dodge pickup all picked out! I wanted the more horsepower that the Hemi offered so I was going to go with the 2500 Laraime 4x4 Quad Cab. But, come January I can order the 1500 with the Hemi. What are the differences between a 1500 and a 2500 or is there a good source that already has this spelled out? I don't haul or pull, just enjoy having a very capable truck. Thanks

 

Get the Cummins! It get's better milage and has a ton of power. 8)

 

In a nutshell, the 1500 and 2500 series trucks share the same body and interior. The chassis of the 2500 is much heavier and stronger though. Hence, the 2500 is tougher, wieghs more, and rides relatively rough compared to the 1500.<br><br>If you want a good ride and sport-truck performance when unloaded - get the 1500 Hemi. That engine in the light 1500 series truck will be unbeatable.<br><br>If you want a truck to haul or tow heavy loads - go for the 2500 series.<br><br>Cutthroat, both the 1500 and 2500 Ram trucks are wonderful - I don't think you can go wrong. In my state it cost more to license a 2500 than a 1500, insurance cost more,and if you get a gasser your looking at lost mpg due to the extra weight. Outside of the monetary penalties you will also have a stiffer ride and higher lift height at the tailgait. On the other hand going to the 2500 greatly increases your capability. If you need that capability now or in your trucks lifetime is the real question. Half tons are popular with good reason as they will meet the needs of many buyers.

 

Thanks for the replies. The one minor hang-up I have with the 2500's is the wheels. From what I can determine they are 8 lug while the 1500's are 5 lug. Doesn't this limit my choices of aftermarket wheels? What about adapters? Thanks

 

;D Plenty of aftermarket rims available for the 2500s from any of the major wheel retailers. ;D<br><br>Yup - I get much more of a workout rotating the 8-lug 2500 wheels vs. my 5-lug Rover D90 (which has a 1-ton rating).<br><br>Best to y'all<br>Bill
