What's the appeal of "debadging"?

I certainly don't put bumper stickers, window stickers, etc. on my vehicles, but I've run across several threads mentioning people who have seemingly removed EVERY badge, logo, emblem, etc. from their truck. Why? Just an appearance thing? Are you replacing the stock badges with something else, another color, some other company's symbols [grin]...?

It's been a "popular" trend for several years. You see a lot of vehicles around the DC area that have all the badges removed. In the hot rod community they'll even pull off the old ones that left holes in the panels. They weld up the holes and repaint etc.

It is a cosmetic thing, however it is also easier for waxing etc as already stated.

Maybe they're running farm fuel and don;t want to get dipped...
Hmmm, that's not such a bad idea. Maybe even swap the Cummins logo for one of those dorky "HEMI" ones.

I peeled the Dodge and heavy duty off the tailgate because I thought it looked crappy. I bought a Cummins "C" like on the front fenders and that is on my tailgate. Nothing else. I did it for appearance.

Now that I can understand...

It seems many on this site (myself included) really wanted to buy a Cummins truck, and it came with some Dodge components wrapped around it. I can understand removing the Dodge stuff and adding a couple of extra Cummins logos here and there. But some people brag of stripping their trucks clean of all insignia, period. It's not an ugly look, but I just don't understand the appeal.

I removed all emblems from the exterior of my truck when I first got it. Not only does it make washing and waxing much easier, but I really do prefer the uncluttered look of a debadged truck. Not to mention the fact that I don't see why I should be advertizing for Dodge when I'm not getting paid for it....

I've removed the side badging from my last 3 duallies. To my eye the badging becomes a "focal point" which becomes distracting once you get accustomed to seeing the smooth sheetmetal and paint. It's a personal preference deal.

I still let Dodge and Cummins advertise on the tailgate.

300sdl - please tell me you had a beautiful Starliner??? Were they the ones that had a colored roof top?

Great looking cars. Don't we ALL wish we still had our first car that we owned. All would be worth some $$ now, I'm sure.

Nope. Not the glass roof, just a Vic. I think '53-'54 was the first year for the glass roof.
